Riise would welcome Benitez Wednesday 27 January, 2010

Roma defender John Arne Riise believes Juventus would do well to hire Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez in place of Ciro Ferrara.

The 29-year-old Norway international, who scored Roma's winner against Juventus on Saturday, played under Benitez at Liverpool for four years.

“I like Benitez a lot. He is a really great manager and a great man,” Riise said.

“If Rafa were to go to Juve he would only do well.”

Benitez didn't rule out a move to Juventus when reporters questioned him about comments his agent had made after last night's stalemate with Wolves.

It's unlikely he will join Juventus immediately, but speculation is rife that a move in the summer could well be on the cards with the Bianconeri considering an interim appointment.

Benitez has a glittering CV, having won La Liga twice and the UEFA Cup with Valencia. He moved to Liverpool in 2004 and won the Champions League in his first season with the club.

Not to Roma players, you have to take into consideration their inferiority complex towards Juve is probably the most out of proportion in European top level football. Players like Totti and De Rossi have always been shitting their pants at the sight of the black and white jersey. Just the fact that Totti scored his first goal ever in Turin should tell you something.

Benitez has always expressed his love for Italy and he's always talked about coaching in Italy. He speaks Italian fluently and I think he's pretty much fed up with the situation at Liverpool. It actually reminds me of the whole situation with Ancelotti last year before he took over Chelsea.

Wow lots of people here hate Benitez. Tell me who can we find that's better and would be willing to come to our team in this current state? Maybe Guus for double the price?

Benitez has won things before. He is on the outs now but every great manager's run comes to an end at some point. I'd gladly take him.

Nick, how was the game? Did you have fun?
The game, I thought we played well on the whole had alot of posession but did nothing with it Ferrara is a idiot for not starting Candreva. The atmosphere was pumping even though the Curva Sud was shut. Roma brought alot of fans, they even spilled into the Juventus stands. Abit annoyed about the result but thankfully I left minutes before the second goal so I did not face a Roma backlash. I will try to get some pictures uploaded of where I sat. Me and Badass was going glass to glass with some Rome ultras.
