Sitting on the bench here will be no use to them. The only spot we have is at CF, do you have anyone in mind?
get them and do the loaning or co-owning if need be, at least secure the talent before watching it blossom and then become out of reach somewhere else.

But we still have to buy players for our own team...
We can spend <5mln on Rodriguez and not splash on chokers from Serie A. Bench is not a must, Serie A experience is like a myth here... we've signed tons of players who turn to be crap in the end despite of them spending years and years in Italy.

you guys are doing a banging job scouting fresh talent from all over the world - now there is Falcao, just recently you had your eyes and claws on Robben. I am not sure how, as of now, you've managed to miss out on this Ruud van Nistelrooy guy but sure he will be in your cross-hairs anytime now.

You called them chokers, so I guess they must be.

I agree about signing players of a certain age and growing them, but it's a utopian viewpoint that requires more of a carpetbomb approach than Juve are really set up for. Ideally we'd sign players at the in-between stage, for €10m or so.

Maybe not chokers but overpriced and players who are nowhere near their worth.

All that 'serie a experience' thing is silly. We bought Martinez, Padoin, Matri and others for like 30mln. They had experience alright, yet proved nothing. Many kids out there would out-preform them easily for much less money.

19 goals in 46 games for Juve. That's not bad at all.

I know you like to exaggerate to enhance your point, but I think that's going a bit far.

Didn't prove much considering their price is a better way to say it I guess. It still doesn't change the fact that we wasted millions.

Anyway, I think all that 'proven Serie A player' means absolutely nothing.

Really?

We sold Zidane abroad. Used the money and our transfer kitty to get Buffon, Thuram and Nedved. The result: a better return in the next 5 years than the 5 years with Zidane. Just an example but Juve's teams are almost always majority Italian/Serie A based.

Well it means they have Serie A experience, that is an undeniable fact. So they obviously have an immediate advantage, in terms of the style, language, culture and all that comes with it. So it can't be said that it means nothing, that is not true.

Of course, it doesn't at all mean that they will then be able to play at a high level for a club as big as Juventus. Likewise, because a player does well elsewhere does not mean they will do well here, so it's useless making bold statements about how these young players would be so much better.

When you pay for youth you pay for talent and promise but should also expect naivety and inconsistency. The kicker is that there is no guarantee they will ever live up to that promise. If there was then SDs wouldn't go for safer moves.

So what you are saying is just buy players from South America, because they all turn out like Falcao and Kaka?
Actually, I think that very soon the serie A teams, including Juventus, will start operating in a similar fashion to Porto. The big teams in Italy aren't that powerful anymore to just buy a good player for a lot of money, so they will have to look for new ways and even buy+play unproven players.

I think we will try to do what Bayern has done for a while, which is grooming youth players and buying the best talents from Serie A.

That was an awesome piece of business, but when we had Zidane and "Del Piero Prime" we reached 2 consecutive CL finals, and the semis in 99. I don't know if we got a better return after that, since we've only been to the CL final once since then, in 2003.

Like Cavani, Jovetic, and Ramirez? Pastore and Sanchez the season before? :snoop: :D

I'd be more worried about the hacks you have starting for you in defense and midfield at this point in time :p :D

We sold Zidane and Madrid won the Champions League, that's Madrid 1-0 Juve. Baring 2003, I don't recall Juve doing too well in the Champions League since Zidane left.
