They are good scouts, but whether they would bring a young striker to Juventus like Falcao from River Plate is a different thing. Falcao just exploded at Porto.

Imagine us signing Falcao from River, people would go apeshit wondering why we sign a striker from Argentina who just scored 13 goals :D

Porto can afford that strategy, we can't afford to sign unknowns like Falcao and give them the proper chance every game to develop.

We can't afford to sign WC strikers, we can't afford to sign youg prospects from SA, but we can afford to stock average players one after the other.

Porto made 7x the amount they paid for Falcao when they sold him to Atletico for €35m.

Milan signed Kaká from Sao Paolo for €7m, was it?

No, but i'd rather make an 8 to 15 mil purchase from SA knowing all the risk involved than buy someone like Giaccherini/Quaglieralla for example.

So what you are saying is just buy players from South America, because they all turn out like Falcao and Kaka?
That's not what I said.

What I am trying to get at why we don't seem to be busy in Latin America. I am not saying we should just do all our shopping there but a little more scouting in that region may be beneficial.

At the same time, I do understand that we can't really afford to take chances on players who may become a hit or a miss.

You need to identify players that you are sure can fit into the team and be decisive immediately and in the future. When you spend money on potential you should expect nothing immediately, which is problematic for Juventus.

Giaccherini and Quagliarella are two players who had already shown that they could do well in Serie A. They might never be top stars but they weren't bought for that. Speculating on players is a different game altogether. The set up at Porto and their league is more ideal for that.

On the other hand we can keep buying 15mln worth of strikers who are 'Serie A proven' and who yet fail when we sign them.

that is what we should be supposed to be doing, no doubt about that.
That's not what we are saying, if we can't sign WC players within europe like everyone is claiming, i'd rather we turn to SA and take some risks on the talent there than keep buying average players for the sake of it.
