u serious? I found it pretty boring. But then i guess i find all prescribed texts boring.

I'd rather take the book at face value than going too deep and looking for themes that aren't there (english teachers love doing that). It just ruins the book

And after reading your post and Martin's previous post, I had such thought, that now Europe is so surprised, that we look for allies in other parts of the world, like Americans, to avoid being infuenced by Russians again - they were looking at their own interests then, so we were, and now they are surprised.
Too bad for me, cause I'm very pro-European.

fli: they try here too, but for once catholics parties made some good thing: they are too biased to Russia and behave like guerrilla in wood: always vigilant

I read it on my own, for my Polish course in high school (self taught). I would agree there isn't a lot to analyze, it's pretty clear straight up.

It's a great book for me too.
One of my favs ever.
And you should read The animal farm: much shorter

But it's about: how to achieve such regime - that was amazing to see all those events.

I read a part of animal farm one time I was bored, pretty much the 2nd half of it. Very clever conceptually, bravo Orwell.

Yours and fli's posts made me think about sth:
We were influenced by soviets regime for so long, and in those times West European countries were thinking about their own interests.
So we also had to think about our own interests.
And we didnt get any help from our European countries, but we got help with that from Americans - not that we were so special country, but they were interested in fight with communism.
Now Poland is pro-American country, and rest of Europe is: Why?
They dont understand that, why we can be like that.
And the explanation is simple: when we needed allies and we didnt have them here, we needed to look for them in other parts of the world.
And for long, they were the only one alternative for Russia.

Yes, it is a shame that we are put in a position where siding with the US, for better or for worse, seems to be the only solid option longterm.

i'd like to disagree with the part about us wanting to fight communism but that would be more like incubo's style and wouldn't take us nowhere so i wont start. g'night everyone.
