I think "monkey" is a more of a racist thing as it alludes more to the physical features... and racism at its very basic is really superficial anyway, so that's pretty disgusting.

I wish fans would be able to separate politics with football. Sorry but I am reminded of the time I was watching Serbia-Australia and the Serb fans unfurled a banner that supported a war criminal and that's just really shameful.

They make ape gestures and call out racist chants when it's directed at opponents, but embrace the colored players living their trade in the club colors. If you're going to be a racist, be a proper one. Don't be a hypocritical racist, that's almost too much bigotry.

Hypocritical in a way, yes. However, the "logic" is pretty simple. They're using the most effective means at their disposal to undermine the opposition. They know racist slurs are more likely to get under someone's skin and, maybe, compromise their performance on the pitch. In the end, it just leads back to the idea that people doing this sort of thing are stupid (perhaps not truly racist if they're able to "love" their own players). It's sport; jeer, throw flares, whatever, but attacking someone on that level is unjustified.
