I think "monkey" is a more of a racist thing as it alludes more to the physical features... and racism at its very basic is really superficial anyway, so that's pretty disgusting.

I wish fans would be able to separate politics with football. Sorry but I am reminded of the time I was watching Serbia-Australia and the Serb fans unfurled a banner that supported a war criminal and that's just really shameful.

This is all child's play. The more attention you draw to this bullshit the more of an issue it'll become. They'll soon become bored of it like most ignorant people tend to do

Are you referring to the chant saying you can't be a black Italian?
That's kind of weak Graham. Sure it wasn't intended as "racist". But saying that Italians can't be blacks/negros is a use of race even though it's only to piss someone off rather than hold a power over them.
Sorry, I'd forgotten about those chants and I was referring to "se saltelli muore Balotelli".

The chants that you guys mentioned are blatantly racist, and completely unacceptable.

Yeah, because calling him a monkey means you're not clever enough to do otherwise.
THIS.

I believe a good 30% of what goes as "racism" are idiots who aren't clever enough to formulate a proper insult.

Of course, leave it to the Liverpool fan to highlight this. :D

Racism will unfortunately never be tackled. I suggest you build yourself a bridge......and get over it.
Either that or just don't condone the idiots that do it. Racism in footie will never go away, of course, but that doesn't make the participants any less moronic trash.

David Nielsen, a black Danish football player, wrote a book called "Black pig". I find this interesting:

"I didn't care about opponents or fans calling me a black pig. It's part of the game and I understood them. I was an arrogant young negro, who played smart and exploited that I was black. It just motivated me to punish them on the field even more.
As long as people do not bother me when I'm buying groceries, I do not care. "

That was a pretty stupid post. Get over racism? Now I've heard it all.

That's just one guy who doesn't have a problem with it, just because he's cool with it doesn't mean we should accept racism directed at players.

What pisses me off the most is that the fans with the racist chants are incredibly hypocritical. They make ape gestures and call out racist chants when it's directed at opponents, but embrace the colored players living their trade in the club colors. If you're going to be a racist, be a proper one. Don't be a hypocritical racist, that's almost too much bigotry.

I'm not saying we should accept it. I don't no what our fans said and if we weren't fined I would never have heard anything. What did they say?
The highlighted part fits perfect with what David Nielsen said.
Oh, and what I find racist, is one member here hating Krasic because he's Serbian.

Hypocritical in a way, yes. However, the "logic" is pretty simple. They're using the most effective means at their disposal to undermine the opposition. They know racist slurs are more likely to get under someone's skin and, maybe, compromise their performance on the pitch. In the end, it just leads back to the idea that people doing this sort of thing are stupid (perhaps not truly racist if they're able to "love" their own players). It's sport; jeer, throw flares, whatever, but attacking someone on that level is unjustified.

Went through the thread, and other than one guy saying something about a bridge and "getting over it" or whatever, I didn't see anyone else excusing this nonsense.

The only way to eradicate racism from football is to eradicate offencive bawls at all. To fine every fan or footballer or anybody else ho dare to insult someone else ! But it sounds impossible !

Or we could all just carry on crying about something that'll never get resolved, wow!! You actually have a choice fella.

first of all let me congratulate you on one fo the most idiotic posts out there. indignation is not crying, compounded by the fact that our team got fined and will face worse penalties should it reoccur, so theres more ramifications than us just bemoaning it. Now on to teh plat de resistance, the bold part, should our ancestors have thought in the same defeatist neanderthal fashion, we would still be caves. i wonder if you ever lodged a complaint with the police or any other justice vehicle, i mean why bother it;s not like we can erradicate crime now can we?
