Perrotta has done nothing in the last 2 friendlies, so it's time to stop that experiment. Trap said he doesn't think Del Piero is ready for a full 90, and he may not be.

No real surprises in the squad, unless you count Del Piero not being there. :)

    Forza Azzurri!
littleD, why does DP need to be ready for a full 90? As a coach wouldn't you rather to have him in your squad knowing that he can at least go for an hour than having to depend on Delvecchio? I dunno about you but I certainly would, and as for the Perrotta debate, never should he, Zanetti, Tommasi or for that matter any central midfielder in Italy be selected for a squad before Tacchinardi.

Some things NEVER change- DelveccCHUMP is in the squad, and so is.... Birindelli ???!!!???
What is wrong with Delvecchio? Imo, with Inzaghi, Del Piero and Di Vaio unfit, Delvecchio would have to be the next best option, especially when considering that the likely formation is a 4-2-3-1.

Well, Tacchinardi is hardly the greatest midfielder, but I agree he's had some strong matches of late and was probably (or should have been) considered.

As for Del Piero, if I was manager, I probably would have picked him, but I don't have any clue as to his fitness level at this time. He has missed a lot of time, and played very little since returning, so I can also see where someone wouldn't select him.

LOL Vinman, you really make me laugh at times!:D

You are 100% correct of course. Neither are good enough at International level. Why does Trap convoke them? silly fool.:fero:

Thanks !! I try to have a sense of humor at times when things are going badly for our NT (which seems to be always with Trap !!)

juvelover, you are 100% correct, Montella, or even Muzzi would have been a better choice than Delvecchio IMO

I am sorry but what has Montella done to warrant a call up, he is having a very bad season and he has hardly made a good impression on the international stage whether he has been given a fair crack is open to debate but imo he should be nowhere near the Nt

It is incredible though that Birindelli is called up, Trapatoni does have a way of winding ppl up, u gotta give it to him

    Azzurri fail to climb rankings
Posted by Nina | Football Italia

The 1-0 win over Portugal last month has failed to see Italy push up the latest FIFA World Rankings.

The Azzurri remain in 13th position, even though they have moved closer to both Denmark and the Euro 2004 hosts.

Brazil have confirmed themselves as the best team in the world but France have slipped to third.

The French lost to the Czech Republic in February and have been overtaken by Spain. The only other change in the top 10 sees Mexico and England swap places.

    Top 15
    1. (1) Brazil 853 points
    2. (3) Spain 780
    3. (2) France 778
    4. (4) Argentina 761
    5. (5) Germany 758
    6. (6) Holland 752
    7. (7) Turkey 732
    8. (9) Mexico 729
    9. (8) England 725
    10. (10) United States 723
    11. (11) Denmark 704
    12. (11) Portugal 700
    13. (13) Italy 699
    14. (14) Rep Ireland 696
    15. (15) Czech Rep 685

    spain 2nd :LOL::LOL:

    I guess Trap likes Lippi's formation. ;)

4-2-3-1: Buffon - Panucci, Nesta, Cannavaro, Zambrotta - Perrotta, Zanetti - Camoranesi, Totti, Delvecchio - Vieri

Perrotta, Zanetti in defensive midfield. :yuck:

The rest seems ok to me.

Oh, and the national team played Italy U18 team in a friendly today. 10-0 for the full national squad.

    Goalscorers: Corradi(3), Vieri(2), Delvecchio(2), Miccoli(2), and an own goal by the U18s.

this formation is beginging to annoy me! :groan:

but it should work better for Italy than juve because it fits fine with Vieri. though i would want Gattusso and Pirlo as the deffensive mids.
