Even though I agree with the point that in some ways we miss a Zidane, that banned moron misses him for all the wrong reasons. We miss him due to his sheer genius with the ball, not because we were more "fearless" when he was on the pitch.
I think somebody said that we cannot field a playmaker because we don't have good enough players to place around him at the moment. How on earth does that work? When we had Zidane running the show just a few years ago, he had Zambrotta and Pessotto around him on the wings, Tacchinardi and Davids behind him, and Del Piero and Inzaghi in front of him. How is that any better than Camoranesi, Nedved, Sissoko, Poulson, Del Piero and Amauri? That doesn't make any sense.
In fact, I'd say we have stronger base to surround that playmaker at the moment, with Sissoko holding down the midfield and Camoranesi able to run the right side of the pitch like he did under Lippi's last years. It was that diamond formation in midfield with Nedved behind the strikers that, on average, brought us the best results in Serie A and Europe combined over the past 8 years. So to say we do not have the supporting players to field a Diego is just wrong IMO.
