BTW, Why do catholics get drunk after a death? Celebrating the persons life or something? Ive always found this kinda strange. Today was overkill. Or is it just an Irish Catholic thing?
I haven't heard it before but could it be that any pretext is good enough?

Well then if my conclusions were based on comments taken out of context, perhaps you would like to elaborate on this statement in a way that directly contradicts my conclusion because I do not see it as ambiguous:
Well I don't really know where you want me to go in terms of explanation. At the end of the day he is just another human being like anyone else. He's lived his life, just like anyone else, he's done good things (tried to build bridges between religions etc) and bad things (homophobic, anti-abortion) just like any other. I don't see that particular comment as a disrespectful one, just an honest opinion on the matter and what I thought at the time (and obviously still do)

Exactly. Reminds me of the Plato teaching, "fools only speak because they have to say something." Pretty much sums up some of the activity in this thread.
For something you only learned a few months ago, You like that quote dont you Andy

How about abit of plato for the defense ::

The partisan, when he is engaged in a dispute, cares nothing about the rights of the question, but is anxious only to convince his hearers of his own assertions.

Great quote indeed Paul. However, it has little to do with this discussion.

Those who posted in this thread with the "who cares" attitude keep returning here because of the supposed "abuse" they have received. This abuse, in Montero's opinion, was my statement that their opinion on the matter is worthless because they said it themselves: they did not care about the Pope and consider him no more than "another bloke," as naive as it sounds (excuse me, it is).

If they really do not care about the subject, why are they up in arms with people saying their opinion on this respective subject is worthless? And I stress ONLY this subject. They are offended even though they do not even care about the main subject matter......or do they? Maybe they do care enough, as Greg stated, to make back-handed remarks while others are obviously upset over the event.

If they truely did not care they would bypass this thread and move on to the next. But no, they had to let out their final shots; not because they care about the Pope, obviously, but other reasons that are far too obvious to discuss.

And I bet you if I would have made my way into the two dedication threads of the Islamic leaders, making such posts as "he's just another bloke," I would have been castigated, and rightfully so. Same thing with Zlatan's favorite communist leader. Only the most sorry individuals find pleasure during someone else's sorrow.

Firstly it isnt in anyway irrelevant... Its a very accurate description of what we see in this thread

As for cop out... No i dont think so... I wasnt the one who chose that line... that was decided when the previous poster declined to answer key parts of the post.. As such I was not going to explain my answer to someone who refused to offer a reply in the first place...

As for irrelevance... Those parts were irrelevant to the heart of the question... imo

Do you consider logos, pathos, and other means of rhetoric to be irrelevant?
