Did you watch the same match as me today?

In any case, thank you for your unsolicited opinion. I'll return the favor by telling you how much I despise coffee posers.
I didn't even watch the match today... I was out and about instead. Just don't like your side bro, no offense. The preceedings in World Cup 2006 and players such as Ronaldo, Nani, Petit, Pauleta and Nuno Gomes is just too much.

And hey, you can talk shit about JoePa all you want. I'm used to it.

Well, Swiss didn't look bad after-all. They impressed me TBH.
I agree. They hit the crosbar and forced Cech into a few saves. They spurned a few chances and were denied a pair of debatable penalty appeals and I think they deserved at least one. They played much better than the Czechs and were very unlucky to lose Frei and the game. I think Switzerland can certainly still progress out of the group as the will probably beat Turkey and if they can deal with Ronaldo I could see them springing a surprise victory over Portugal. Switzerland's main problem is that without Frei they will lack a good striker.

Turkey never really threatened Portugal and I don't see them getting out of the group. Portugal hit the woodwork thrice and had a goal disallowed so it wasn't a bad game for them. Nuno Gomes had a pair of good opportunities and he hit the woodwork twice but I think he is a little isolated up front and I am also not sure about Ferrara or Boswinga. They will probably make it out of the group stage and lose in the quarterfinals.

I thought it was a decent match. They kept Turkey in the game for too long imo and they can't afford to do that in the future (yea, they'll learn  ) Beautiful play leading up the first goal and 2nd one wasn't bad either. Had me out of my seat in the bar :p

Força Portugal!

Anyone notice how all four teams last night all played with one striker?

Portugal- fine, they've got goal-scoring capable midfielders...and defenders for that matter as we saw last night!

But Czech Rep. and Turkey really needed support forwards/strikers to play along with Koller and Nihat, respectively. Both of them would easily get crowded out.

The Swiss were doing fine, Alex Frei had a couple good chances, but wasn't fed enough. Yakin was useless afterwards, and even when he did get the clear header, it was well off target.

Regarding Switzerland, I think they have three key players now in Barnetta, Inler, and Behrami. Vonlanthen too. These guys can change the game for them, and provide some form of creativity for the team. I really wish to see them progress, as I actually like this host nation.

Oh, and is it just me, or did the Czech's style of play very similar to Greece-2004?

It's very awkward seeing them without Nedved, he would've been so much fun to watch had he not retired from NT.

I really liked Portugal, they play interesting and entertaining football. I would have wished them a good luck to win everything were it not for their douche C. Ronaldo.

All four suffer from a lack of on-form forwards. For Turkey, it's that plus the fact that they have more of a wealth of midfield talent. In Portugal's case, they have a wealth of midfield talent and a lack of any forward talent (let's not forget they effectively played a 4-6-0 after they subbed out Nuno Gomes in the second half).

It's one of the many reasons I like the squad. And even I have this love/hate thing with Ronaldo. I've always been more of a fan of the likes of Carvalho followed by Deco, Moutinho, Bosingwa, etc.

So to me, it completely pisses me off when Ronaldo is on the cover of every magazine and all the TV announcers here can say is, "The big question is whether Ronaldo can do it all himself." Dumbasses. :(

And mind you, the team plays more like a unit and Ronaldo works with the team. He did a good job yesterday but he wasn't doing anything all by himself.

It's really easy to fall in love with the Portuguese NT, isn't it ?
They play the kind of football that can easily win your heart. Too bad they will probably be Croatian opponents if Croatia pass the group as second placed (as expected) so now i have to hate Portugal :D

Andy if you want to see some pathetic divers, just see the Turkey players in last nights match
Word. Nihat played awful, he had two chances which he must have done better. However, Turkey are tough, they had solid defense but as Swag said, they're lack of experience. But I don't like them at all, they dived and fouled too much. In this case, IMO, they don't deserve to go through the group stage.

Czech are tough, too. You know, they lost Nedved, Rosicky and both Koller & Baros are not in good form. However, they defended absolutely well, with a lil help from luck though. Their young striker really impressed me: Sionko was strong and determined while the young lad who scored was such a big surprise. IMO, both Swiss and Czech deserved to win but the luckier won.

Oh, and did you guys notice that Grygera played well yesterday? His attack was not good especially his passes but he defended really well. Hopefully he will improve in next matches.

    Forze Czech Republic :martini:

Turkey's lone striker was Erding, Nihat played in the hole right behind him.

Nihat and Tuncay tried but they need a better player to lead the line. They're both good in supporting roles, not so good when they're asked to be the main men.

They both should play as forwards, because Turkey lack Strikers, they should have included Fatih Tekke to their squad, without him and Hakan Sukur, there is no other option than playing both Tuncay and Nihat up front.

i dont know which match you guys watched but the match i watched, Tuncay played on the left and Nihat played in the hole, Kazim on the right..Erding played upfront alone, but he wasnt isolated he got a lot of support from those three.
