That's exactly what he used to do, he opened space with his first touch just giving the defender enough time to get right there at the ball left with 2 choices; being left behind by a lightning quick skill or going for the card. Ronaldo was a master at this though and had the confidence of a lion, Dybala is pretty average in this specific style. But he'll get better I'm sure.

I think its exceptionally diffifult to pull off. when juggeling or controlling, you learn how to keep it close or go in ways. however, getting a pass and making the first pass kick in a specific direction and angle, with the right speed, its so hard. I've never seen anyone quite master that like ronaldo, who got the ball 40 meters from goal, with back to the goal into feet, then did that and turned and bursted into space, and before the defender knew what happened, he had 5-10 meters allready.

Now, there is talk about "dybala very high acceleration but slow lasting topspeed".

well, this move is tailored on hil. he can make the most out of his acceleration to create a gab, and you need to be quite fast to remotely catch up

Really all it is IMO is an attempt to preemptively get a couple steps on the defender before they realize it. Most players control the ball closely then make their move. Dybala pops the ball into a small pocket of space.
