I don't get why people think Dybala is incapable of playing as a striker/CF, something he did for Palermo and for Instituto. And this idea that he's tiny, a Gio sized player. He's 1.77m. He's not short. 13cm taller than Gio. He's not a tall striker, but he's taller than Aguero, a few cm shorter than Suarez, and so on. He doesn't have to be pigeonholed as a support striker. He's too much the poacher for that, add to that the creativity which is a massive bonus, and he has the capability to become world class as a very versatile forward. Able to play both CF and SS.

But he certainly should be spending a lot of time in and around the box...

Yes, he's very good at CF too. But in a team like Juve, playing in Italy I don't believe your prima punta can be someone who is easily knocked off the ball.

Even Messi would struggle in that role playing vs Catania, Chievo, etc.

He played as a prima punta last season against the same adversaries we'll face and did just fine. He wasn't easily knocked off the ball then. It might be that sitting deeper in the final third allowed him to be the one receiving that final pass. Allegri wants him to be that connection between our mid and attack. Not sure if we'll be using his 100% that way. He's not the most pacey but very quick in tight spaces like Romário.

Struggle is an exaggeration. We're not talking about Italy in the 80's/early 90's. Those defences you mentioned are pretty shit and a player of his calibre would surely find ways to deal with compact-parking-the-bus-defences.

He's indeed a good passer. But playing deeper upfront did not stop him from getting assists and just creating stuff out of nothing last season. The difference is that before, sure he had the freedom to track back/cover the flanks occasionally but he mainly stayed in and around the box, which is something I personally prefer.

The best we saw of him I believe was when Pogba played a more forward role just behind him. Two highly technical players and intelligent on the ball put together and they naturally understood each other. The chemistry was there from the get go.

Unfortunately, by the sounds of it that's what Allegri has in mind.

We have plenty of CMs even though some have been really bad and Khedira has a broken body... Pogba should be given a chance at the AM role. Put him next to Dybala and see what they can come up with.

It pains me to say this given that he's put some really good performances for us but it was a mistake to get Cuadrado. We did not only moved away from the formation to got us to a CL final, we have to field Morata out of position in order for it to (somewhat) work. And now, talks of Lavezzi... if it happens, Dybala is as good as gone unless he's fine with rotting in the bench.

Instead, we take every deal/opportunity we can get regardless of whether the coach or the squad need the player or not. That's what happens when you have a limited coach.

Even the sporting director's limitations will be exposed badly.And Marotta has his own limitations.

If we had a better coach, one who can adapt, the damage would've been to a much lesser degree.

Adapt to a winger based formation with only one winger. Or be given 4 CFs and no true SS to play your classic 2 strikers-TQ-based formation, and Hernanes is the best the board can give you for your go to guy role.

Having said that, Allegri is to blame for several things this season. He hasn't been the greatest motivator and some of his starting choices/excuses have been arguably bad. We also happen to lack an identity this far into the season which is unacceptable.

I also do believe he failed to create a "new" system that could somehow fit all those random players that were thrown at him. But saying that it's easy or that any "better" coach could do it is rubbish. Only an excellent motivator could have managed to lessen the damage seeing as our players are just psychologically beat right now and the pieces given to fit our puzzle were simply wrong and that falls under our board's fault, and that's where the problem started. We fucked it up at the mercato.
