Good player problem is he needs a whole midfield built around him to flourish. You simply can not give him the ball and expect to bring the team forward if he doesn't have runners in midfield covering for him

They just have to do the dirty work for him, you can still be a good player. Lampard and Gerrard were no different, ask them to do a job in midfield and they were ineffective most of the time

Putting aside all tactical and positional arguments, the worrying thing is he totally lost the 1v1 battle with Dembele. I have never seen him completely destroyed like that.

Dembele is always amazing whenever I watch him. I'm surprised he never made a move to a bigger club.

He's got everything, physical and technical qualities.

So does Pogba tbf but he will never reach his full potential under Mourinho.

Mourinho still playing him as a holding mid is honestly shocking at this point. It has never worked at any point in the last 2 years.

Mourinho really showing how inept he is. Trying to fit the players he has into his old style of play rather than adjusting the style of play to fit the half billion $ worth of players the club signed for him anyway

Meanwhile look at our dear leader, Euromaxx. Probably has much less say in how and whom the club buys than Mourinho at United (especially if the rumors about Beppes massive ego are true :beppe:), forced into changing formation mid season multiple times to find what is appropriate for the players available to him. He has a plan A, B and C and can change them all when needed

Absolute tactically flexible genius, I mean it when I say Euromaxx is our most valuable asset and we should do whatever we possibly can to keep him for as long as possible.

Allegri is miles ahead of Mourinho recently. I can not imagine us putting in a performance like Man U put in against Spurs. They looked like they had no coach and had just turned up and met each other for the first time.

Cuz Ajax is real tough competition... :shifty:
Well, last year Ajax was. They were having a great season with some very good football. United had just lost Zlatan for a long time and had its most promising CB injured who's name I forgot. The odds were in Ajax's favour..

Ajax absolutely ripped Lyon and Schalke a new one at home but failed to make it difficult for United.

It was a team with Davinson Sanchez who was sold to Spurs for big bucks and is one of the best CB's in the EPL atm.

They were a Europa League team for a reason. The odds in their favour? Give it a rest. Beating Schalke and Lyon like it's some sort of big accomplishment?

United has spent like 700 million net on the transfer market in the last 5 years. Ajax has spent pennies.

United had 100 million dollar Pogba, 50 mil Martial, 45 mil Mata, 40 million Mkhi off bundesliga player of the year, 35 mil Herrera, 30 mil Bailly, and so on and so forth. United's squad is worth 10x what Ajax's is worth. Ajax didn't even win the sad sack Dutch League last year Ffs.

They're supposed to be running with the big boys, not playing minnows like Ajax in the Europa League. United losing that match would have been appallingly embarrassing given the money they have spent especially alongside finishing 6th in their league.

Odds in Ajax's favour? You have to be taking the piss.

The odds were never in Ajax's favour as they were a really young group, they did play some nice football last season but aswell had an relatively easy road to the final, they eliminated the likes of Legia Warsaw, Copenhagen , broken Shalke and a unlucky Lyon to get there, all of their games being very evenly matched with Ajax coming close to elimination on most of those occasions, if anything i'd label them as extremely lucky for reaching last seasons final, they were just counting solely on enthusiasm while obviously lacking any type of experience.

Any decently strong/organized defensively opponent could have got the better of them last season, especially for a defensive minded coach as Mourinho who has a superstar team at his disposal, this game was more or less won before it even started, with or without Pogba,Ibrahimovic etc...

Ye Ajax were cannon fodder for Man United, United had the easiest run of games of any EL team I have ever seen to lifting the trophy

One player missed an open goal against them in the dying minutes to win the game and knock them out and of course he missed it

They did what they had to do to win but they were far from convincing and had the easiest fixtures imaginable

Pogba seems to have been found out in their setup

He needs cover and he can not play in a 2 man midfield, if he wasn't so stubborn and felt like he didn't have to take the world on every time he gets the ball maybe he could improve

He has all the talent to be the best player in the world but he is not humble enough to get the basics right

It didn't help that Peter Bosz' kamikaze style of football made it extra easy for United in that final. Same shit approach that got Peter Bosz sacked at Dortmund; where he failed to adapt to the oppositions tactics knowing that his high pressing game was exactly what Mourinho wanted..

They played the following formation

Romero
Valencia - Smalling - Blind - Darmian
Herrera - Pogba
Mata - Fellaini - Mkhitaryan
Rashford

Those were at least 4 or 5 players that weren't starters for United at all.. All five bold players played less than 20 games in the Prem therefor I'm inclined to say that the odds were in Ajax's favour

It wasn't easy to adjust to such a squad, but Mourinho showed great tactical ability in that final.
