To be honest, our midfield will never be as strong as it was the last three years, on paper anyway. All we can hope for is having a similar profile and structure to keep the same vision and physicality in the middle of the pitch. All depends on how Marchisio comes back from his injury. If he comes back strong, then the PogbaVidal replacements will fit in easier. Just such a big mistake selling Arturo.
that midfield was incredible, will be hard for anyone to build it like that again, especially for that kind of money. if Marchisio and Khedira stay fit for the closing months of the season though, and depending on who we eventually sign next, its still a great midfield overall, one of the best in Europe

I'd be surprised if he stayed.

Don't care about news but I do believe we'll sell him. I said it many times imo it's only a matter of time. Signing Higuain was weird if we kept Pogba. I don't care what economists who had books opened say about our finances -- it was and it would be weird to keep him. Surprising if not weird.

Too bad, though. Despite me being prepared to see him leave, I still feel gutted cause we're letting one of my fav players go (don't quote me saying how he wants out pls). But I still think such offer was too good to refuse. At the same time it's quite sad to see we're spending majority of the cash on Higuain (who I rate very highly at this point) cause his price is seriously inflated.

Bottom line: I wanna see who comes if Pogba leaves. There's a very, very strong possibilty that we'll come out stronger.

Bottom bottom line: I, sadly, wouldn't be surprised to see Pogba score against us in a CL final, without celebration making millions of Juve fans shut their mouth and let a tear down. Not because they are a better team but because once upon a time he was a Juve jewel that tore whole Italy apart.

I'm just very curious to know what our midfield options are. Is it the press related names of does the board have a trick or two up their sleeve? 50m plus a couple of sales can give us two top class players. Who are they going to be? What I would give for Verratti right now, it's not even funny. How about going 45-50m for Naingollan. It's not impossible Roma could sell for that money. Hamsik and Naingollan. We might get bombed.

No chance. He will be destroyed by Juventus if we ever crossed paths.

But he's not even gone.

Yet. :snoop:

My only issue with Kroos is that I feel him and Pjanic would basically play the same role. At least Verratti is more mobile and good defensively with some bark.

Well a lethal dose of 13 mil per year and Raiola dirctly to your brain. That's the formula.

If Pogba goes, I would like to see both Hamsik and Radja Nainggolan as a replacement.

i would say we need to be this pesimmist yet. The last 3 years our midfield was strong....but it was mainly because of an insane Vidal. if you look at it carefully.. marchisio didnt found himself until we started using him in the pirlo role.....Pogba was and still is developing...and Pirlo, while good, was showing serious decline after the first 2 seasons.

The only real irreplacable player was prime vidal...who practically carried us while being a defensive midfielder with grinta and tackles....something that Pogba struggles to do even with all his flair.

If we move our cards right when replacing pogba...we can seriously build something interesting with players like Pjanic, Pjaca and the possible newcomers.

time to jinx this :hustini:

Na, we lose a lot when we lose Paul. His dynamism is just unique. He integrates into that midfield and takes it a whole different level. I couldn't say one of the best in Europe anymore. With Khedira unreliable, and Marchisio still to return, we probably aren't even the best in Italy at this point. Of course, we don't need to sign a big name on paper per se, but just the weight of facing Pogba Vidal and Marchisio, or Marchiso Khedira Pogba, will just not be there anymore. So I'm going to have to say that we will probably need a couple of summers to find that perfect midfield fit going again.

Also, as an aside, what does everyone think of using white Pogba, Pjaca in the LCM? Could it work? Curious, I think it could, but then again, I also think white Pogba can be a hybrid cf.

i think Pallotta said the will sell only one of Pjanic and Radja. And Radja rejected Chelsea even. Hamsik would be possible without Higuain imo (we had an agreement with him last summer apparently) but no way ADL sells to us now. too bad though, those two would be amazing here
