He was never an extraordinary scorer like Cavani was for Napoli but his allround game is what makes him so good. Also, to be fair to him, Robben isnt really a player you expect to pass the ball to you

what? he used to be clinical as fuck. they replaced him because they wanted a striker who contributes more to build up play/runs more.

edit: replaced might be a little harsh - Gomez got injured, Mandzu took his spot. but i felt like they wanted to get rid of gomez anyways. i'm quite sure he could have easily matched Mandzus numbers - but his insane pressing game is what made Mandzu the number one striker.

Exactly. Mandzukic was a beast for them (look at him in the 12/13 CL season) but they wanted a more well rounded/technical striker and Lewandowski is certainly better at that style of play.

Neither of those are really crossers of the ball. They mostly used Mandzukic as a target man who played one touch passes to the more talented players.

How many goals we need?. As much as we can get. Even if we have a superb defense, we need to have goals in abundance. The less we burden our defense to win games the better. They already do their job, but there are moments when we need to score, like the bayern games showed. On top of our great defense, we need to find a player that scores for fun and that is a constant treat during the whole game. Someone who can score or assist by himself continously in normal games, and score that winning goal in crunch KO matches.

As long as we dont find that player..we will continue risking getting KOed by more attacking teams.

yes its diffcult, but thats our missing piece in the forward line. We have found a real WC SS in Dybala, now we need a superb scorer to partner him. Mandzukic is ok, but we need a real bomber a la cavani or Drogba on their prime. Someone who can really make a difference.

What we needed against Bayern was more control and Pjanic improves us in that regard by quite a lot. It's very hard to improve on the Mandzukic-Dybala partnership, players that would do that cost a fortune. By the way Dybala himself is that superb scorer who is and will be our main scoring option for years to come, Mandzukic is the one who plays the role of bringing others into play and making room for the more technically gifted players like Pogba and Dybala.
