I'm not so sure as you. I think the possibility is real and it's quite a realistic outcome depending on how much he craves CL glory. We don't know how much he really wants it and we don't know if we can give it to him.

I also wouldn't say the only threat is Barcelona. I can see him making Madrid or City his destination instead just as easy. Guess we'll know more in a few months.
