It doesnt excuse ofcourse, whatever happens next hes always gonna have this on his legacy. He was at his peak in 2016, he could have went for the CL in barcelona, Madrid, PSG or staying put. He chose a weak team, probably bought into the Mourinho and Zlatan hype. Raiola, money, fame, huge fanbase, "home", dumbass friends like Lingard. A lot of factors, had they succeeded in waking up the fallen giant it would have turned out great for him legacy wise. But they didnt and hes alao to blame.

Having said all that, doubting him as a player i dont think is fair. First, he wasnt terrible there, he had his fair share of great games. And 2nd, like i said, he needs to be seen in a different envirovement first, before dubbing him finished or overrated etc

Let me put it like this, I won't be surprised if he moved to another team and started putting in consistent performances at his best. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he did it for Man Utd. I don't think he has magically lost his technique, control, passing range, strength etc. My original point was that after 5 years at United, he has to take most of the blame. Also because he has this ability, it would have been perfectly possible that in another environment he would have been world class and had a CL or two to his name. But that's football, players have a short shelf life, and their choices, professionalism, mentality, ability to adapt and other non football factors play a major role in the success/failure of their careers. We can say what if about so many talented players, that would be a never ending cycle.

Because of those 4-5 years he's always going to be a risk, especially for what he'll cost. But if a manager and club truly believe they can get the best out of him. IMO that is a high ceiling.

I meant the general narrative in this thread when i said he shouldnt be dubbed finished, i wasnt talking about you there. He could find his peak form at ManU even, but he needs to be played in his best position. But as long as they have Bruno (AM/SS) and a bunch of wingers, thats hard. It will either be him behind 4 attackers infront of the defense, or some lopsided 433/442 with Bruno and Ronaldo as pseudo wingers/CFs. Hard to see that but lets wait for a new coach, Conte could find a formula. Either way if i was him, im leaving in the summer

People have fond memories of his time here, he was really great for us, so thats no surprise. Id take him back on reduced wages and hes 'free', yet you will see how im a Pogba apologist. But some people say its better to bring back Vidal who is rotting on inters bench.

Coincidentally also puts in consistent top class performances for his national team.

Some people just don’t recognize how much easier it is to shine in the national team for a dozen or so widely spaced out matches a year against a mix of terrible and middling sides, where even the top sides are much less organized and well-drilled than top club teams. National team performance has next to zilch to do with club team team performance.

He was brought on because the others got bulldozed, and to maybe create a goal to save face. A proper player would have tried to save his team's face. Instead he gave away an extra goal and got red carded, fully justifying the decision to exclude him. Imagine doing worse in 15 min than the midfielders who conceded 4 goals in one half. Thats how bad he was.

He’s nearly 29 and should be at the peak of his career, but he’s far off that.
There’s no chance he can turn things around now, even with a new manager in charge.
He’s slow, sloppy, lacks mobility and is lackadaisical.
I’ve heard him described as both an awkward lanky giraffe wearing concrete boots and as knackered old oil tanker with a broken propeller that struggles to manoeuvre or turn. Both sound quite apt.

The commentator called him arrogant at one point. It was when he over dribbled and Zapata almost scored but Bailly blocked it. I don’t know what he was thinking but the commentator was spot on. Weirdly arrogant for a player who has so many flaws in his game.

Its always been the case. His teammates and the club have taken the blame for his lack of intensity and interest for far too long. At best It’s like playing with a man down in about half his games, at worst he’ll cost you games and goals. It’s just not good enough. Devastating attacking player on his day. More often are the days he’s sloppy, self indulgent and slow. He regularly goes missing in games we need him the most too and is self indulgent and ponderous when we need him keyed up.

If he ends up signing a new contract I will be majorly pissed off. Think if I had the choice of getting rid of Pogba or Solskjaer in January I'd pick Pogba and I really want Solskjaer replaced.
Guy has never done it for us on a consistent level, constantly dawdles on the ball in midfield and opposition managers have been targeting this for years. Agree with those who say he should have been sold years ago.
