Yes, the whole thing was a pastiche of gay insanity. And the Last Supper iconography got its 15 seconds of fame which then evolved into the feast of Dionysus (unless you think the giant smurf has something to do with Christian values).
It's a rendering of one rendered image among countless others that have been used throughout history to referece a sacred event (see:
