DC hasnt been given the time to prove he is better OR worse than Molinaro. CR always opts for Molinaro for LB and seems to want DC as a backup for nedved.

exactly, Capel is a more attacking player and is a "proper" MF...DC is a pretty interesting case...not quite defensively sound enough yet to be an LB, and not skilled enough to be an LMF...will be interesting to see what he develops into...personally, I think he would prefer to play as a LMF
Isn't that a signal that he's neither great as LB or good as a LW. I've watched DC last season with siena and he was just "decent" but nothing more. People believe that because he's young then most likely he'll turn out to be great in the future. The same way people were praising paladino when he was playing for us.....

Sell DC??? Are you ppl drunk or smth???
Despite the fact that he is the best LB we have, if we sell him, then we have to bring another back up, for our star (Molinaro)...

ok, where/when has De Ceglie shown that he is a much better LB than Molinaro?
In the game against Udinese he played very well. He could deliver more impressive performances if CR would give him a damn chance. His defensive game is unproven but his crossing and dribbling are for more impressive than Molinaro will ever be.

Very true. I think ranieri fears his raw defensive abilities, with time I think he will be our starter.

Fabiano Santacroce hit the upright of an open goal as a revolutionised Italy stumbled to a 1-0 friendly defeat in Germany.

Pierluigi Casiraghi completely revamped his squad for this test in Osnabruck, particularly as Luca Cigarini, Claudio Marchisio and Morosini were missing, so Juventus man Paolo De Ceglie was reinvented as a midfielder.

Mario Balotelli has been sensational for the Azzurrini since becoming available in August and after just four minutes was denied a good penalty shout for a foul in the box.

Palermo youngster Davide Lanzafame went close early on, as he hit the upright – albeit in an offside position – and skimmed the woodwork from Domenico Criscito’s assist.

Germany initially sat back, but came out of their shell when Kroos’ fierce drive from the edge of the box took a deflection off Marco Andreolli to smack the crossbar.

Just before half-time the goalkeeper flew to palm out Sebastian Giovinco’s trademark curling free kick.

Casiraghi made more sweeping changes at the break and Daniele Dessena immediately threatened to open the scoring on Giovinco’s cross.

However, it was the Germans who broke through with Kroos again showing his capabilities from distance.

This boosted the hosts’ confidence and De Ceglie needed a crucial sliding tackle to stop substitute Johnson going clear on goal.

Inter star Balotelli sparked the fightback with a right-foot strike that skimmed the woodwork, then Howedes charged down Giovinco’s snapshot.

However, Lazio defender De Silvestri very nearly scored an own goal, as his misplaced backpass thumped the upright!

Italy should have drawn level on 77 minutes when the goalkeeper parried a Balotelli free kick into the path of Santacroce, but the Napoli defender incredibly hit the post from point-blank range.

Many hoped Casiraghi would test out Balotelli with Parma hitman Alberto Paloschi, but instead the two exchanged places for the final 10 minutes.

The Azzurrini poured forward, but Giovinco drilled their best chance inches wide. This may have been a friendly result, but it will have done little to ease the pressure on Casiraghi.

i did see the game and de ceglie was not as good as you might think ... it was a pretty boring game where there where not really many crosses from either side...

De Ceglie is hugely overrated. He is basically an average player. I would sell him to Wolfsburg in a heartbeat for good money.

Sure. Any player is able to deliver an impressive performance every 2 months.
