U21: Palladino to face Belarus
Saturday 3 September, 2005
Claudio Gentile has called up Livorno’s new starlet Raffaele Palladino to face Belarus, as three players will be suspended after the fiery Scots tie.
The Azzurrini drew 2-2 in Scotland last night in a match that saw three men sent off – including Italian duo Simone Pepe and Marco Motta. In addition, Marco Donadel was booked and will also be suspended for the next game.
With this in mind, Coach Gentile has called in Palladino for Tuesday’s European Under-21 Championship qualifier in Belarus.
Palladino made quite an impact on his Livorno debut last Saturday, scoring in their 2-1 victory over Lecce on his Serie A debut.
The 21-year-old impressed in Serie B last season, netting 15 goals in 39 appearances for Salernitana and is still owned by Juventus. This will be his second appearance for the Azzurrini, last featuring in a 2-1 victory over Russia on February 8 2005.
Palladino could well be given a starting shirt against Belarus, as striker Rolando Bianchi is a major doubt after limping off during the Scotland game.
