I have to disagree with you here Melo. Isnt it the people that did the attacks that are responsible? That they are waaay to sensitive to those cartoons using them as an excuse to kill? Should the world conform to their views of the world or shopuld they change their views?

Its similar to claiming that a girl in a sexy dress is responsible for her rape and that she shouldnt have teased the rapist. I really disagree here, some forms of free speech are essential for democracy and should not be used as an excuse for these kinds of things.

You make sense but I think what Melo is trying to say is that one should feel free to write what he wants if he can or has the power to protect himself. I could be wrong but that's what I think he meant earlier.

Not really. I don't know much about the PKK in the 80's and 90's but from what I hear about, they usually attack the military and government, which is understandable. That's not bloodshed for a group that wants independence. Just like ASALA was targeting Turkish diplomats and government officials in the 70's, or when Michael Collins set up rebel bandits or the word you used, "terrorists" to kill English agents in occupied Ireland in 1916. These examples aren't considered bloodshed. If you consider them to be bloodshed, then you probably have deep nationalistic roots and you are a jingoist.

My point, considering you obviously missed it, was that extremist nut-jobs are gonna be who they are and do what they do no matter what their sick minds 'choose' to dwell upon - be it religion, race, politics, all these are simply outlets of the anger and insanity stored in them. The US didn't need the "issues" with muslim immigration to have OK City, Columbine, Texas Tech, Tucson etc, etc.

Unfortunately, your personal political and social convictions do not allow you to see the nut-jobs in question as the actual 'reasons' for these atrocious acts, so you identify the fixations of their messed-up minds as the central issue.

Of course some nut-jobs will channel their anger into whatever the flavor of the day is, but to deny that a certain social or economic issue is the reason for another's madness is not being objective and is indeed a cop out. Some believe Joe Stack was insane but if it wasn't for the IRS, he probably wouldn't have flown his biplane into a building. If the Muzzies wouldn't naturally retaliate whenever someone draws a wonderful little cartoon about their "Profit", others would not be inclined to retaliate against them in return.
