well who the hell remembers monaco? when they reached the finals few years back, got to the finals, and now lost within their own league.

who the hell remembers leverkusen? when they lost to real madrid, a club themselves lost in their own league.
it seems you still remember, if you say those things. you remember monaco.

    I do

In fact, I was thinking about both of these teams when I made my point

There's more to football than the absolutism of winning and losing.
Football is about steady progress, setting yourself new targets all the time, staying positive and giving your very best and then seeing where it takes you.

Of course, everyone likes to win, and everyone would want that, but if losing was "the end of the world" like you say it is, then depression/quitting/throwing in the towel would be a huge part of the game - which it happens not to be.

You pick yourself up, you say to yourself that you've tried your best, and especially - if you've reached a final and lost - you say to yourself well done, we almost did it - and then you prepare for next season and have another go.

Take the CL - with all those great clubs..
If you reach a final in that competition you've done the club proud!

I can quote the brilliant Leeds United legend Billy Bremner, a fine player, one of the very best British players of all time, and he said: "The worst feeling in the world is being eliminated in the semi finals, because no one is going to remember you at all."

He knew the importance of reaching a final

well those who have been on those finals also remember the team who lost, as all who watch cl with interest not just to watch becks new hairstyle or ronaldinhos new trick.

ok i understand your point but i think there are many people who want to know who was the team who that final winner beat. was it a superb team, was it someone not so famous.

Who was the finalist in the WC of '34?

Anyone remembers a finalist when it was a great or very exciting game. In Monaco's case, they'll probably be forgotten in a year or ten.

    So who knew that?
I knew but that was a rather bad example by you, because 1934 is a hella long time ago.
I've studied the World Cup before, and gained the knowledge that way.
Italy was the winner and I think everyone who follows Italy knows who they beat in the World Cup finals.
