melberg is a good defender, strong and dynamic he would certianly improve our team,i think he can be a great squad player and this will allow us to get rid of boumsong.plus hes free so that means we can spend money to get a better dfender, ie barzagli

I want Legro as Boum's replacement on the bench and a very good D to start next to Chiellini. I don't think Mellberg is that guy. Like I said, I don't like his positioning and would like to see him more dominant in the air.
Chiellini is powerful in the air while Mellberg is very good on the ground. I think it would be a good pairing.

He needs a fresh start he's spent time a Villa, a new team would be good for him, but I don't think he's what Juve needs, we should be going for defenders that are quick and good in the air from set pieces and though normal play. (Like a new Cannavaro)

Not bad. Good in physically demanding games but i think hes just gonna end up replacing boumsong on the bench. As long as he is free i don't see any problem but i would still place him behind legrottaglie and chiellini. I hope we sign barzagli in January so he can play next to legro in the center of the defence. Chiellini would then take up LB and i guess zebina for RB. But honestly i think i would put molinaro on right back ahead of Zebina.

Mellberg To Juve A Done Deal?

Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg will be a Juventus player in time for next season, according to the latest reports in the Italian press.

The Aston Villa stopper is out of contract next summer and, although coach Martin O’Neill is determined to keep him, it would appear that the Italian giants have managed to convince Mellberg that joining them would be the best possible career move for him at this time.

No official agreement can be announced until February, but it is reported that the 30-year-old Swedish defender will has already given his blessings to a deal that will bind him to the Bianconeri for at least two years with an option for a third.

The impending arrival of Mellberg, who joined Villa from Racing Santander in July 2001 for £5m, is not expected to come in the way of Juve’s planned purchase of Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic from Lokomotiv Moscow, seeing that the veteran Swede will be available on a free.
All this spells bad news for Bianconeri bench-warmer Jean-Alain Boumsong, who now looks increasingly certain to be leaving Turin in the summer.

GARDNER: WE NEED TO KEEP MELLBERG

Aston Villa midfielder Craig Gardner believes it is vital defender Olof Mellberg remains with the club.

Mellberg, who has been at Villa for seven years, is in the final season of his current contract and the versatile Sweden international has been linked with a move to Juventus.

But Gardner wants Villa boss Martin O'Neill to retain the services of every player when the January transfer window opens - including Mellberg.

The 30-year-old has played most of his career at centre-back but for the past three months has slotted in effectively at right-back after the summer sale of Aaron Hughes to Fulham and Mark Delaney's enforced retirement.

Gardner said: "Olof is a tremendous player. He is really a centre-half but he has fitted in well at right-back for the moment and I think it is really important we keep him.

"We have got quite a small squad and it is really important we keep every single player in January. I would like to see Olof stay.

"It is squad of quality players. The gaffer has got rid of all the dead wood and brought in fresh wood and hopefully he will add to that in January."

Just as well. I was going to have to assume you were a complete idiot otherwise.
