Sadomin, Esteban, there is a young talent who plays in the midfield with BP. i read he's linked with Juve in today's Metro. Then they interviewed him and he denied everything :D
Albin Ekdahl I guess. Son of famous TV4 journalist Lennart Ekdahl and hyped mainly because of that. I wouldn't think he could make it to the bench for our Primavera.

If you knew anything about football coverage in the United States, you'd know that there are at least three EPL matches broadcasted live each week. I've watched Melberg play quite a lot in the Premiership, and I personally like the player... he's solid and tough.

But is he good enough to lead our back line... FUCK NO. So what is the point?
So he went from 'fucking sucks' to someone that you like and who is 'solid and tough'. Fair enough.

In no way is he the man to lead our back line, no. But that is not what the positive ones in this thread were asking for. We were saying on a free and used as a backup, we should consider him.
Now, I know we have backups in Boum and Zebina but cashing in on those two and get a better player on a free agent surely looks a good deal to me.

Well, Melberg does suck. Stating he's solid and tough doesn't reveal anything about how he reads the game or marks, does it? As others have stated, I don't think he's suited for Serie A as I don't think he reads the game very well. I've always liked how he is rugged though.

But in the scheme of things... I don't see this guy helping our defense at all. That's what the ROFL's were for.

I'd prefer another freebie in Ujfalusi and play him in the center just like in his Hamburg days. He's friends with Pavel and could be used to replace an injury prone Andrade.

I know you're probably more updated on the French Ligue than I am, but I got the impression that he is pretty much a regular in Lyon starting line up these days. Am I totally on the wrong here?
No your right about that..Perrin rotates his team alot, and Bodmer hasnt yet adapted to the team..those two factors IMO are the reason Kallstrom is getting so much playing time...But if you think of it..most people here want Tiago out..Tiago was obviously the better player in Lyon, and Kallstrom rarely played when Tiago was around..so why bring Tiago's understudy when Tiago himself is regarded "a flop"

PS: Dont get me wrong..i think Kallstrom is a very good player..the only reason he isnt cutting it in Lyon IMO is because he's an attacking midfielder..in Lyon they insist on playing him as either a CMF or a left winger.

Melberg: "Next year? who knows

"It would be a successful placement at the top of ranking and a qualification to Cups. Once obtained this objective, we will see if in the future I still play here. "
With these words Aston Villa swedish defender Olof Mellberg (30), seems to open some window of opportunity, for a transfer to Juventus in June. The player deal is expiring and would transfer to zero cost.
But everything will depends, as affirmed by Mellberg, form the placing of Aston Villa in Premier League this year.

:agree:
We dont need any players to fill the squad, numbers aren't a problem for us, its quality we need. This summer Mellberg would have been an option (to replace Legro & Boumsong) now we need starters, classy, proven, international quality defenders.

I'd prefer another freebie in Ujfalusi
Ujfalusi is so much better than Mellberg.

The time to get Mellberg would have been beginning of this season. After this season I do not want to tolerate just anybody coming to join our squad.

Free or not Mellberg is a step in negative direction imo.

The big 4 in the premieship would not take Mellberg on a free so why should we?

Personally I am fed up of freebies, we are packed with them and they are yet to add any sort of quality to our side

Hopefully we should be competing in the Cl next season and we should be going for quality not just because a player is free

Good news for ya guys

MELLBERG, Says no to Juve

The strong central defender Olof Mellberg says no to Juve. The Swedish and his agent would be bothered from attempts made from Juventus, and not only for engage the player, trading on the end of the contract in summer: " For respect to Aston Villa, I've given the charge to my agent to extend my deal".

Mellberg Dismisses Juventus Link

Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg has played down reports linking him with a move to Italian giants Juventus.

Recent media reports have suggested that Juventus are interested in acquiring the Sweden international.

With his contract set to expire at Villa Park in the summer, Mellberg would be a free agent, however Villa are keen to offer the veteran a long-term deal.

Mellberg has since brushed off the speculation, stating that his only priorities are to perform for his current club.

"I was linked with Juventus but I am focusing on doing well for Villa," Mellberg told the club's official website.

"We are in the throes of things, but there's nothing definite just yet. We're in discussions," he told the Birmingham Mail.
