When I talk of 4 arrivals, I include Mellberg and Amauri. Giovinco and the 'surprise' will at least get to that number and beyond. That doesen't include Poulsen and possibly the arrival of Ivanovic.

I have a feeling we may start the season with Tiago Mendes.

I cannot even begin to explain the feeling this Poulsen move gives me. When the Stankovic deal seemed imminent, I thought no feelings of rage could surpass that because I assumed if the board was to try and get a player now, it would be at least someone who gives something going forward.
If the reason for not getting Xabi is 16m is too expensive then the board should just be killed after splashing on amuari

Trident?

Well it was obvious that would be the system we would play more often since we brought in Amauri. We splashed some of our best financial resource in an area where we were already the strongest in.

CR certainly brought in good players for that, and it would be physically frightening to think we could field Iaquinta, Trezeguet, and Amauri at the same time when needed.

That does justify Poulsen to some extent, I just hope CR knows what to do when our game becomes too narrow. Im thinking he's just going to bring on the muscle forwards and hope we muscle our way through the small clubs.

I wonder how our midfield will look like if we're really gonna play 4-3-3. One of Nedved and Camo will be benched or maybe even both. Zanetti-Sissoko-Poulsen looks unbreakable, but there is absolutely zero creativity unless you see Zanetti's long passes as creative. I'd play Sissoko-Poulsen in central midfield pushed a bit back towards our defence with Camo in a sort of free role in front of that duo. I think Camo can handle that role seeing his skill and constant running. Del Piero as the trequartista behind Amauri and Trez.

Maybe Ranieri will use Capello's 4-4-2 system with 2 DM's in most Serie A matches and play 4-3-3 in CL. Hopefully he's studied Capello's strong and weak points.

Camo in a tree formation and DP playing a trequista, don't look so good IMO.

4-2-1-1-2

Very very narrow formation.

I'd say, Sissoko and Zanetti with Camo in an advanced role towards the right side.

two of DP - Trez - Amauri, will have to wait wide. That way the defence is more spread out. And we might continuosly rotate between 4-4-3 and 4-4-2 in the game.

But still, our main concern would still be in how the transition is when we are defending, and how we will cope if the strikers find a dead end coz we don't have a midfield maestro aside from Camo, perhaps Gio on the wings, and to a lesser extent Tiago.

But I guess thats how CR plans to field us.
CLOG THE MIDFIELD AND BYPASS IT WHEN ATTACKING.

Good point.
If Xabi comes in though it changes the whole situation, doesn't it?
no 2 DM's...
no bypass the Midfield...

It's 4-2-1-1-2 on paper yes, but Trez would be the only one constantly in the same position, in and around the penalty box. Amauri swerves on the sides and in front of the box a lot. Del Piero too and Camo can practically run were he wants in midfield cause he'd have Poulsen and Sissoko as safety guard. If we had a good leftback, he and Zebina could push forward when needed. But it's no use creating own formations, Ranieri will probably stick with 4-4-2.

i doubt that the 4-3-3 is working for us... our defense is just to weak for it.... our midfield will not bring the needed creativity and i think even our attack could have some problem with the 4-3-3, dp and trez aren't the qucikest one anymore (also i think if we want to play it a whole season we need a 5th striker)
the thing is if we buy poulsen there is no chance of playing the 4-2-2
and i doubt that ranieri is thinking that gio will start every game....
