For me it should be Poulsen + Stankovic. In no way you can compare these 2 players (or Poulsen with Xabi). They play completly different. One thing why I think Ranieri wants Poulsen, is that Momo is a bit injury prone and the way Momo defends in midfield, nobody does. Neither Zanetti nor Marchisio have the power or tackling that Momo has. However, Poulsen does have what it takes to replace Momo. So I guess we are getting Poulsen to replace Momo when needed.
I still think its Poulsen + Stankovic or Xabi. But just Poulsen would, as you said, make absolutly NO sense at all. This would be a Capello midfield...
In terms of ability, Stankovic > Poulsen.

Remember, Stankovic can play practically all positions in midfield, and while he's not as good a tackler as Poulsen, he's MUCH better with the ball. That's what we need right now, not some podunk defensive midfielder. We have Zanetti to come in for Sissoko if he's injured.

But again, the emphasis here is that we need someone to pass the ball, and as of yet we have not found that player. Lets concentrate on securing Xabi or somebody else who can do his job because we don't need another damn defensive midfielder at the moment.

I absolutly agree with you. My point is just that signing Poulsen, doesn't mean we won't go for Stank or Xabi. I guess our board know that much football to see that we really need a player, who can dreate from the center and pass the ball, as you said.
About Stankovic.....I don't know....his coments about Juventus and the fact that he already snubed Juventus to go to Inter hurts. But he would be very usefull. He could replace every player in the midfield. Something that can be very usefull in a long season!

Gigli: "Poulsen will be our warrior."

http://www.calciomercato.com/index.php?c=21&a=87572

The headline is misleading, but the article says Gigli doesn't know if Poulsen will arrive. He says Blanc and Secco will buy the right man for Ranieri and he's sure we''ll see him as a warrior.

This discribes Poulsen I guess, but I'm hoping it's Stankovic seeing as Alonso is no warrior :p. They dont seem to be planning to make two midfield signings by the looks of it. Just one "warrior".

The Old Lady has been keen on the Spanish international but they have failed to reach an agreement with the Merseysiders over his fee.

The Reds have held out for as long as possible in an attempt to scupper interest from the Serie A giants and it seems to have worked as Alonso has declared that he wants to stay in England.

“Everyone treats me so well here,” said Alonso.

“There are a few stories over a possible transfer but I would prefer not to talk about my future.

“I want to win the Premier League as that is the only trophy which is missing.”

Reports claim that the Bianconeri had offered €20.5m for the midfielder and it seems as if that is going to be their final offer.

The Italian club have started to look elsewhere for a midfielder and thus Alonso’s move to Serie A is moving further away as time goes by.

Well looks like Xabi wants to warm the Anfield bench :(. He is a complete idiot to turn down Juve and be able to play every week. Looks like its either Poulsen or Stankovic :(

So you think that our starting squad is perfect to look for Momo's replacement?? Xabi is what we really need, if he's not coming we have to look for a similar player

Signing poulsen wont add shit to our team, because that means that we wont sign another midfielder, and we will play in a stupid defensive game with 2 destroyers, we'll be like Capello's Juve without winning

I really pray that this transfer fails

Juventus are just hours away from completing the signing of Sevilla’s controversial midfielder Christian Poulsen, according to the latest reports in Italy.
Juve are well known to have made a centre midfielder their top priority this summer, but despite pouring their efforts into a host of targets, including Xabi Alonso, Alberto Aquilani, Dejan Stankovic and Marek Hamsik, they have yet to bring anyone in.

Last week it was reported in the press that the Bianconeri had turned their attentions to Sevilla’s Christian Poulsen.

The 28-year-old is something of an infamous figure in Italy, following his clash with Francesco Totti in a Euro 2004 group game between Italy and Denmark.

During that match in Portugal, Totti spat at Poulsen after being provoked by the midfielder, and was later banned for three games through the use of video evidence.

We miss out on Flamini and our board says it doesn't matter because we want someone more creative for out midfield and they end up getting this guy who will cost us 10m euro and 3m euro for the next 4 years

Last season we went with the cheap midfield option and it did nothing and in the end we ended up getting Sissoko who we wanted all along but cost to much originally.

We lose out on Flamini and then sign Poulsen for 10 million Euros? You've gotta be kidding me.

Again, this board is fucking crap no matter what anybody says.

Our team isn't dumb, our board is dumb. And by our board is dumb, I mean they're literally retards who should have a visit with Dr. Kevorkian.
