EURO 2012 he had the core players of his team in the form of their lives due to Conte and Juventus' unbeaten season but Italy were toothless in the final against Spain.

The reason why I call him a scrub is that the Juve defense, that always looks so solid under Conte, always concedes goals in the NT. Italy conceded a shitload of goals at the CC and during the qualifiers/friendlies.

Also, Italy qualifying as the first European country doesn't surprise me one bit. Italy got the second or third best team in Europe, only Germany and Spain can compete with them if you look at the players individually.

The players had just played like 3-4 days before the final and a lot of the team were injured, with chiellini coming off in the first 10-15 minutes. It wasn't even close to a fair match and everyone knew it.

Let's not forget these are some of the very best players in the world, and we conceded 4 vs Bayern while Italy managed to beat Germany (mostly Bayern) in Euro 2012. And not to mention it is always a habit of Italy to underestimate lesser football nations. That has been part of Italy NT a LONG time ever before Prandelli was coach.

Holland and France arguably have better players also, but Italy players together better as team, thanks in no small part to Prandelli.

-------------------Buffon----------------------
-----Barzagli-----Bonucci------Chiellini------
Maggio-------DeRossi-----Pirlo------Giak----
-----------Rossi--------------Marchisio-------
---------------------Balotelli------------------

3-4-2-1 just like in the game vs Spain in the semis

or if prandelli insists with his diamond formation

-----------------------Buffon---------------------
----DiSciglio---Barzagli---Chiellini---Criscito---
---------DDR--------Pirlo--------Marchisio------
------------------Totti/Cassano------------------
--------------Rossi------------Balotelli-----------

OR if I kil- I mean I prandelli mysteriously dies and I take over

--------------------Giak-------------------
------Giak-----Giak------Giak------Giak--
-----Giak-------Giak-------Giak----Giak--
------------Giak-------------Giak----------

I like the third one the best

Your first formation

Could get overrun in midfield, but I feel Italy look the most solid defensively in a back three. Also like Giak as a WB. I remember him absolutely killing Spain in that CC semi final, deserved a goal in that game for sure.

yes I was at the dinner table when the game was on and Giak, Maggio, and Candreva constantly destroyed Alba and Arbeloa. Giak's cross to Maggio should've been a goal, but Casilass saves tons of those, Motta header in euro 12, Maggio header in Confeds, Marchisio header in Juve vs Madrid.

When Giak hit the post my heart was in my mouth, and I was really disappointed in him not taking a penalty. I still believe Giak is continuing to grow, but he must leave sunderland and go to a team like NewCastle, Liverpool, Everton or hell I'll gladly take him back here.

Well, an exhausted team that was mostly injured and had given so much, with the blatantly wrong tactic, against spain who conserved much energy and was incredibly lucky to get in the final...

Seriously, The luck against portugal was disgusting.

@Gian Prandelli >>> AVB :D

Italy should deploy a 3-5-2 formation with Rossi and Balo as the main strikers. The only problem is Italy doesn't really have decent wing-backs, and if one of Pirlo, Marchisio or De Rossi picks up an injury, the quality of the 3 in the middle is going to drastically decrease due to the shite players on the bench. Italy can obviously vary it by playing 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1, but it all depends on who Prandelli takes.

Why is there an Italy thread for the World Cup? Where are the other nations?

Where's Canada, Iran, Lebanon, et cetera?

Somebody needs to start these threads.
