I agree with most of what you've said, but most of the Italians who crossed the Atlantic for more opportunity in the USA was certainly not centuries ago....its been less than 100 years

Don deal delayed until July
Azzurri Coach Roberto Donadoni will have to wait until July to pen a new deal with the Italian Football Federation.
The former Livorno boss had been expected to receive an extension to his current contract, which expires two weeks after Euro 2008, prior to the summer’s adventure in Austria and Switzerland.
Despite the assurances of FIGC President Giancarlo Abete that Don is the man to lead Italy in the future, no formal agreement has materialised and it won’t for another four months.
“The base of the relationship between the Federation and Donadoni is the united aim to honour the prestigious tradition of the national side at Euro 2008,” a statement read.
“President Abete wants to reiterate that there is faith and a relationship of mutual respect on a personal and professional level, which goes beyond contractual issues.
“We will discuss a new deal when the current one expires in July.”
There have been suggestions that the FIGC won’t stick with Donadoni if he fails to reach the semi-finals of the European Championships.
Rumours circulated that there would be a rescission clause activated after Euro 2008 should the world champions fail to reach the final four, but it now appears that the FIGC have taken a more transparent approach.

Donadoni calls players on Saturday for friendly match Spain-Italy
Head coach Roberto Donadoni will release the list of the 22 players called for the friendly match that the National team will play against Spain on Wednesday, the 26th, at the Luis Valero di Elche stadium (10:00 pm).
The players will meet on Monday, the 24th, at 4:00 pm at the “G.Meazza” stadium in Milan where they will have their first training session at 5:00 pm. On Tuesday, at 11:00 am, the team leaves for Alicante where at 6:00 pm they will train at the Luis Valero di Elche stadium. On Friday, May 30th, the National team will play a friendly match at the “Artemio Franchi” stadium in Florence against Belgium, their last test before the final phase of the UEFA Euro Championships. .

Ancelotti Or Lippi To Replace Donadoni - Report
Either Carlo Ancelotti or Marcello Lippi will take over from Roberto Donadoni as coach of Italy after Euro 2008, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
Yesterday it was revealed that an extension to Donadoni’s current deal will not be discussed until after the European Championships.
“We will discuss a new deal when the current one expires in July,” a statement from the FIGC read.
Although many people are interpreting this as a 'semi-final or you’re out for Donadoni’, the Corriere believes that the Italy boss will not be in charge of Italy’s World Cup campaign regardless of how they do in Austria and Switzerland.
The paper says that either Carlo Ancelotti or Marcello Lippi, most likely the former, will come in as his replacement.
Ancelotti is widely expected to move on from Milan at the end of the season, and he has never hidden his desire to take charge of the Azzurri.
Lippi meanwhile has been out of management since leading Italy to glory at the 2006 World Cup, but question marks remain if he would be interested in returning. Instead the 60-year-old could be the man to replace Ancelotti at Milan.

I always thought Capello would take over the Italian NT,but since now he's with England,im pretty certain it will be Ancelotti.But if that happens,we could be up for Lippi as Milan's manager
