Donadoni: Impossible To Play For The Draw

Italy Coach Roberto Donadoni has rejected claims that his team will be playing for a draw during their crucial Euro 2008 qualifier against Scotland this Saturday.

The Azzurri go into the game knowing that, with the Faroe Islands coming up at home the following Wednesday, a draw will in theory be enough to take them to Austria and Switzerland.

“I have been in the world of football for 25 years and I have never come onto the field to play for a draw,” said Donadoni.

“I believe it is impossible to do this, and we must also remember that we are facing a Scottish side, of who a draw is of little use to.

“Scotland work very hard and their main strength is how they play as a team.”

Donadoni also commented on his squad selection for the game and explained his reasons for choosing Alberto Gilardino ahead of Filippo Inzaghi.

“I preferred Gilardino to Inzaghi because in recent games he has shown to me a lot of continuity,” explained the boss.

“Inzaghi, excluding the two goals he scored in the Champions League, has had little space at Milan.

“All in all, we have two other central strikers in Toni and Lucarelli, three wider forwards in Camoranesi, Iaquinta and Quagliarella, and we must also not forget Palladino and Di Natale.”

and neither do i rate mohammed zidan as one of the best strikers in the world as u make him out to be

Toure imo is more suited for the spanish league than the italian

like ive said before the term 'world class' is vague now does having a couple of good seasons justify a player to being world class? we might aswell rate quaglirella as a world class striker cause he had a good season last year, or darren bent cause he was last season's top english goalscorer, i guess that makes him world class too? no.

p.s read again i said i dont rate fabregas as highly as most, that doesnt mean i dont rate him at all, but you're retarded i forgive u

Again with the Zidan shit, where the fuck did I say that he is world class??,where the fuck did I say that he is one of the best strikers in the world??
All I said about the boy,is that he is a promising youngster who hopefully will have a bright future.

When will u stop being a retard??

So has anyone else got one of these? :weee:

Lucky..........:( !!
Have Fun but dont get ur hopes up!

---------------Buffon

Oddo--Barzagli--Canna--Zambro

----Gattuso---Pirlo---de Rossi

Camo---------Toni--------di Natale

This gives us the best chance I feel, with the options of Iaquinta, Gila, Perrotta & Grosso from the bench. Pirlo needs to run the show & Toni needs to show the class he did early season for Bayern.
WoW!!
Thats exactly my formation,I cant believe I am agreeing with u on smthing!

like your team but i would have squeezed chiellini in there his been one the best defenders in seriea this season but its an important game i guess experience is not on his side but he has a stronger character and i think he could handle the pressure so i would mos def play him.

our midfield is the key to getting something out of this game so hopefully pirlo is on song and gattuso is his fiery self

Don: In Scotland to win

Roberto Donadoni has discussed his selections ahead of Saturday’s Euro 2008 qualification D-day against Scotland and insists Italy won’t play for a draw.

The world champions just need a point at Hampden Park to book a ticket to Austria and Switzerland, but the Azzurri have never won in Scotland.

“Scotland have been getting results at the highest level,” Donadoni began. “Their Coach has been doing good work as proven by the fact that they are one game away from qualification.

“The past shows their strength, but Saturday will be a new game. They want to win, but we have other ideas.

“Their strength lies in their group mentality, but I maintain that ours does as well.”

The former Livorno tactician opted to select Alberto Gilardino ahead of Milan teammate Pippo Inzaghi.

“I made that decision because Gila has only been left out as a precaution in the past and he has shown consistency lately,” Donadoni explained. “He has experience as he has been to a World Cup and won it.”

Despite France boss Raymond Domenech’s inflammatory insinuation that Donadoni’s men will play negatively in Scotland, the ex-Milan midfielder is eyeing maximum points.

“I have been in the world of football for 25 years and I have never gone out on the pitch to draw,” he claimed.

“It will be the same for our opponents as if the Scots draw they need France to lose in Ukraine and that’s very unlikely.”

Juventus winger Mauro Camoranesi is ready for action in Glasgow despite a recent recurring thigh strain.

Christian Panucci is likely to be chosen ahead of Massimo Oddo on the right with Andrea Barzagli and Fabio Cannavaro ready to start in middle.

Italy (probable); Buffon; Panucci, Cannavaro, Barzagli, Zambrotta; Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambrosini, Camoranesi; Toni, Di Natale
