I know, but he's the captain, it wouldn't be the same. :p Sacking Donadoni now wouldn't help Italy, it'll only make it worse, getting used to a new coach right before the France and Ukraine games.
We should definetely leave the guy because sacking him would only cause more problems . I never liked Donadoni's style of coaching and I always had doubt on his players' selection but I guess he deserves to prove himself against France and Ukraine . If he fails in these gams then Italy should definetely sack him .

Toni joins Italy injury list Saturday 25 August, 2007

Luca Toni faces a race to recover in time for the France clash after he scored and sustained an injury for Bayern Munich today.

The former Fiorentina forward is expected to start against Les Bleus on September 8, but his place could now be at risk.

Toni hit the back of the net for the third time in as many Bundesliga games, opening the scoring in what would become an eventual 3-0 win over Hanover.

However, he pulled a right thigh muscle during the move and began limping badly as he celebrated the goal.

The Italian international went off soon after and will be keeping Roberto Donadoni on his toes before tomorrow’s tests confirm the diagnosis.

The Azzurri are already struggling ahead of that September 8 showdown at San Siro, as Marco Materazzi is out, while Fabio Cannavaro is also in doubt after spraining his ankle during training with Real Madrid this week.

In other news, Rolando Bianchi only played the final 16 minutes of Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

This is great...:wallbang:

Iaquinta to the rescue :D
Jack, please, now's not the time for humour! Still, if he was to score our winning goal... :superhapp

Chiellini - Criscito for central defence!
Oh Lord! Can you honestly see Criscito's slight frame stopping that big lump Anelka in a physical challenge? Criscito's only chance is to pull out a gun & shoot him! View attachment 33802 I agree Chiellini should play though...

Sunday 26 August, 2007
Luca Toni has reassured Italy fans his injury will not keep him out of the Euro 2008 qualifier with France.
The forward pulled up during his goal celebrations for Bayern Munich yesterday afternoon – his third net in as many games – with a muscular problem.

“I felt a hardening of the quadricep while I was striking the ball that gave us the 1-0 lead,” explained the Bundesliga star.

“It’s the first time this has happened to me. I think it is just a twinge, but today it will be evaluated more thoroughly with clinical tests. I remain optimistic.”

There were fears Toni would miss out on the crucial international matches against France on September 8 and Ukraine on September 12.

“I absolutely have to be there for France and I intend to be there. I will immediately begin treatment with my physiotherapist, Giovanni Bianchi,” added the former Fiorentina hero.

It is one more concern for Azzurri boss Roberto Donadoni, who is already without Marco Materazzi and risks losing Fabio Cannavaro as well after he sustained a sprained ankle during training with Real Madrid.

OMG that sounds messed up...but i hope the Azzurri finally gets serious and rapes Les Bleus...
Ukraine are the "dark horses" with a game in hand, as things stand. It's arguable that a draw won't be the end of the world for us! France lead with 17 pts, Italy next on 16. Scotland 3'rd on 15, & Ukraine with 12, with as I say, a game in hand.

Scotland have Ukraine and Italy at home, still. We have a very good home record in qualifiers. Already beat France and have drawn with Italy and Germany in recent years.

Even if we can't sneak 2nd place, we will have a big say on who does qualify.
