No, you remember wrongly. I laughed at you for saying that Naingollan is clearly better than Fellaini, which he's not.

I mean obviously he's performing much better in Roma than Fellaini is at United. But that has more to do with Fellaini being a terrible fit at United, and for the most part he wasn't being played in his natural position as he was at Everton.

Naingollan is an average player, I do not think he'd add anything to United.

But seriously I stand by that. Roma is as good as it gets for Naingollan, he's an average player with very good physical qualities. Mata was one of the most creative attacking midfielders in the EPL when United bought him, so to say that they should've gone for Naingollan than someone like Mata is still a ridiculous thing to say, even with the benefit of hindsight, after Mata has so far failed at United.

@Fred when will Stephane Ruffier make the move to a big(ger) club?

He's having a really good season with St Etienne, though a lot of credit has to go to their defense which has been quite mean this season. I wouldn't be surprised if he was snapped up next summer, Ligue clubs have a hard time keeping hold of their players even with the Russian, Turkish leagues these past few years.

He definitely wouldn't get a sniff at Chelsea or City. At United it would depend on the formation they use, right now they play with one defensive midfielder, Naingollan doesn't have neither the positional sense defensively nor the technical ability to be the midfielder that operates as a deeplying playmaker. I'd take Carrick over him every day of the week.

I don't need to tell you he wouldn't get a sniff at Juve either, I'm not even going to bring up the Spanish duo and Bayern Munich.

right now they are. but werent they after that Carvalho guy in the summer who is a similar player to Radja? also, i think for a while now (3-4 years) that United lacks and needs more physical presence in their midfield. in other words, they are (too) soft. Radja would solve that, and i think hes very underrated among people who dont watch him regularly...

that also might or might not be true. there is a high cance that Strootman could leave after this season, so he would definitely have a starting spot then. or Pjanic. besides, Cagliari are apparently asking too much for his other half -> probably has some offers form the EPL, so he might likely be the one that leaves after this season

I know he's playing well this season, but can you honestly say that if or when all Roma's midfielders are fit and in form, that he'd be a definite starter?

I disagree about his defensive positional sense, do you think he can play as the lone defensive midfielder, I've seen him being played there a few times for Roma, but only in games against the smaller teams and/or when De Rossi and Keita are not around.

Carrick isn't a 50M player, he's a 33 year old English midfielder who is close to the end of his career. Matic isn't a 50M midfielder either, he wouldn't get a sniff with him IMO. I see you disagreeing with my assessment of Radja, but are we really disagreeing? My statement to BD was that United shouldn't be looking to buy him? do you disagree with that? I also said that Roma is as good as it will get for him? If you disagree with that, please tell me who he'd start for?

If you're saying he's a good midfielder for Roma, I have no problem with that. I don't think the likes of United for example should be after him though, he's not that good.

Correct, he kind of was the victim about the whole Januzaj story.
We wanted to be sure Januzaj would pick Belgium so (I think), we had to take him to WC and Radja had to stay home because of Fellaini, Witsel, Dembele and Defour.
Although I would have left Defour or Dembele at home since they were not playing for their teams.

That's because Fellaini was never a good defensive midfielder, ever. At Everton he became prominent when he played in a more offensive position closer to goal, where his aerial prowess can be used to better effect.

If I were Belgium manager I'd play Naingollan Witsel right now, Dembele has really dipped in the past year or so, I remember back when he was at Fulham and when he first joined Tottenham, he was a beast.
