No sporting director equivalent appears for English football, only for clubs who utilise an overseas approach to transfers (such as Spurs with Franco Baldini). Ed Woodward is the vice-chairman, and he assumes final responsibility for the financial and administrative input into signings. In England traditionally the manager has greater say in transfers, which is why he is termed a manager rather than just a coach, who is technical staff.
