Their defence is of a standard that more or less matches their ambitions and Jol does at least try to get his team to defend.

It's not like Roma, with their ambitions to compete for the scudetto with players like Kjaer at the heart of the defence and who continually allow forwards to run through on goal one-on-one with the keeper.

From speaking to Roma fans, a lot of their views of Stekelenburg were formed by him getting a few red cards due to him having to try and cover for his hopeless defence - not red cards that I would really blame a keeper for getting.

It was always quite clear that they needed to replace the ever so great Gareth Barry in midfield and Nasri didn't live up to the hype either and James Milner sucks.

He had a tough time with injuries and Silva underperforming. Still think sacking him was harsh.

that is really saying a lot about how bad the managers are in england, his persistence with a 3 man defence, playing players out of position, incapable of finding the right balance in the team. And that is before we even explore his poor man management skills

Even when they won league it was a hard task and depended on luck. It's easy to say 'he could have won the league with new signings etc', then why didn't he spend all that money better when he had it? He spent so much yet failed to deliver way too many times.
