Their defence is of a standard that more or less matches their ambitions and Jol does at least try to get his team to defend.

It's not like Roma, with their ambitions to compete for the scudetto with players like Kjaer at the heart of the defence and who continually allow forwards to run through on goal one-on-one with the keeper.

From speaking to Roma fans, a lot of their views of Stekelenburg were formed by him getting a few red cards due to him having to try and cover for his hopeless defence - not red cards that I would really blame a keeper for getting.

Mancini could had won the league if he had Navas, Isco and Fernandinho. Instead he got Garcia(meh), Rodwell (lol) and Nastasic(great signing) in his last year.

Quite possibly.

They certainly needed some decent new players to provide some freshness and energy.

Man City just looked terribly sluggish for most of last season.

mancini could have won the league if he wasn't so tactically inept
One of the best tacticians in England imo. Stat-wise he was one of the best coaches?

It was always quite clear that they needed to replace the ever so great Gareth Barry in midfield and Nasri didn't live up to the hype either and James Milner sucks.

He had a tough time with injuries and Silva underperforming. Still think sacking him was harsh.

that is really saying a lot about how bad the managers are in england, his persistence with a 3 man defence, playing players out of position, incapable of finding the right balance in the team. And that is before we even explore his poor man management skills

Even when they won league it was a hard task and depended on luck. It's easy to say 'he could have won the league with new signings etc', then why didn't he spend all that money better when he had it? He spent so much yet failed to deliver way too many times. Sacking him was well deserved considering everything.

Especially looking at their performances in CL, two years in a row.

I'm glad for Atlético. Diego performed very well for them :cap:

Indeed. Not going through group stages with that team... pathetic. But there's always an excuse like 'they don't have CL experience'. Maybe, but neither Schalke nor Napoli had it, yet they did very good.
bs with that team they should at least reach the QF, its a shame, but it shows, that the team has no real spirit.

Yep. Imagine Conte with that team, he would have done wonders
