For a mid-table player what do years in a top league with half the money mean against a few in Dubai with twice as much? If you're a starter then I don't see what there is to lose.

If you want to be a team player at a top side and sacrifice being a starter (Peluso, Padoin etc) then that is different, you're looking for medals and your name in the books ahead of numbers in your bank balance.

Maxi Lopez to Dubai.

Quick question, if you were a footballer, with average talent, wouldn't you go to Dubai early in your career? I mean you get paid good, no taxes, great weather and living a lavish life.
I hated Dubai so no.

I would prefer to earn a comfortable living in Italy or Spain.

Everything is true there except the great weather :D

Dubai is amazing, would not swap the UAE for any other country in the world

I've had this discussion with my friends before, and it's very simple...football is a job, a job you do for around 10 years at the highest level, so in those ten years, you must earn enough to sustain yourself for the future. One can argue that earning 2 million a year for ten years is more than enough to live comfortably, BUT if you had the chance to earn either 4 million a year with Club A or 12 million a year with Club B, (keeping in mind this is the person's job) I think that this is simple.

If the difference is negligible, say earning 6 million a year in Germany or earning 7 million a year in Zimbabwe, I would naturally choose Germany, however if the choice was between earning 7 million a year in England or earning 20 million a year in Siberia, you can bet your life i'd go to Siberia.

I'm stating this from a neutral point of view, i.e. no bias, if I were a player, and was offered 5 million from Juve or 10 million from Inter, I would honestly choose Juve, but that's because I'm a fan and it would be an honour to play for them! If I had no ties to any club, I'd go for the highest money, though would consider the difference in the figures together with the place before making my final decision

Playing in Dubai wouldn't rule out living in Italy or Spain later in your life; you'll have more cash and probably live a richer life.

I agree with everything you said but I'd like to add that playing in Dubai probably isn't merely because of the money. The club you'll play for probably has passionate fans too and the fame will be no less; models would like to date and fuck you and you'll be treated a king in every public place you'll be.

People criticised Falcao moving to Monaco but the way I see it: he gets to live in friggin' Monaco, driving beautiful cars, fucking models 24/7 and making a shit load of cash. Who wouldn't want that?

Take Swedish player Wilhelmsson for example who was playing around in Europe(Nantes, Deportivo.. teams like that) and then decided to go to Saudi and make shitloads of money. He went there back in 2008 when he was 29 and he's still there. He has learned to love life over there and made a lot more than the initial 10m euro he got when signing for his Saudi team in the first contract. Now he's in the UAE.

Unless you have a shot at the big clubs, there is no need to play for middle teams in Italy or Spain when you're barely making over 1m a year when a team in the UAE(not Dagestan or some strange place like that) can offer you around 5m a year. And I'm assuming the life in the UAE for a rich family is very good.

depends on what you're looking for in life. most people who play footie do it because they love to do it not because they need to make money, at least that's how they start out.
I also don't get the idea that you need to make enough money for your whole life during your career, not all athletes sit on their thumbs from 35 onwards.
