I think it's unlikely he didn't know he would get into trouble for it, but he's probably going to retire or move to Al-Somethingorother at the end of the season anyway. He's never stayed anywhere for very long.

no man, even in france the quenelle was never found illegal in a court of law, and the french are a lot more sensitive in that regard, the FA is simply cowering to the pressure and it ll come back and bite them in teh ass

Yes, but I don't agree that he didn't know what he was doing. Could be his last hurrah, while he is still relevant as a professional athlete.
