The haggard drunks and whores and pimps give the place an edge which I like, reminds me more of back home...and I did enjoy living on spenser street for a year, just behind acland street, near luna park. Been literally 2 minutes walk from the beach was a wicked luxury. Its pleasant and lively. but the best area I have lived in here in Melbourne is Brunswick. Grimier, less pretentious fucks around, and i was often the only white in sight...also noticeably cheaper, in terms of drinking and accomodation, with bigger houses. Now I am in Cremorne, and have been for 6 months, between Richmond and Chapel St/ Prahran. Even though I enjoyed the St Kilda festival in the past, the most vibrant outside event I have been to here was a street festival on Chapel...can't rememeber its name, but there was live hiphop/dance/reggae, allsorts of food and buzzing atmosphere.

I agree Brunswick has this cool bohemian feel to it, some great bars and boutiques. I always thought if I moved out it would be to Brunswick or Carlton.

I've gone out in Sydney before, and even though I was only there for a week I'd say Melbourne has a better variety in clubs and bars. I ended up going to Ivy with my cousin and then hit up Kings Cross but I mainly went to strip clubs and passed out on the couches. Ivy has some very hot girls there its a pretty cool place.
The best thing about Sydney is that you have real beaches. Our beaches are pretty shit.

Most English people know fuck all about Foreign leagues.

The English are still largely inward looking when it comes to football.

Football reporters will generally consider it their job to know about English football, not football at large.

Of course there are a few exceptions (the serious papers tend to have one resident reporter who knows more broadly about the game), but most pundits are pretty narrow minded and some are borderline xenophobic.


Chelsea v Inter this year was a classic example.

Most pundits were baffled, even when coached by Mourinho, that nobodies like Maicon, Samuel, Cambiasso and Sneijder could give Chelsea a game, never mind beat them.

Purely due to ignorance of foreign leagues.
