With all due respect, Paul (I admire British [English more specific] society after having lived there) but the unarmed police forces on the streets relatively regularly have to call upon armed back-up forces when they notice a situation that requires it. Clearly guns are still necessary in your society as much as in neighbouring ones.
What worries me is that the response time of the forces of law is lengthened by the system of special armed forces; thus increasing the risk of citizens getting hurt.

Ireland is similarly gun-free country, and I don't quite agree with you Erik. Certainly, there is an added delay in getting armed police on the scene, but that's the price we pay to try to engender trust in the police force. Police officers in England are trained to think first, shoot last. Compair/contrast that with the US, for example.
Police officers in the Netherlands are also trained to think first, shoot last. In fact, their policy is that if they shoot at all; their first shot MUST be a warning shot and their second or other consequetive shot must NEVER kill.
But when you have police officers running around with barely more than a bat to defend themselves with; things stand a bigger chance to escalate imo.
Dutch society is one of the most peaceful I have ever encountered and guns are as less a part of daily life as you'll find possible in this world; police officers with guns doesn't stop that. They do, however, make it safer as they're a bigger threat to real criminals; who will commit their unlawful acts regardless of society's moral, but who may find themselves thinking twice about doing so when they're facing a capable police officer on the street with means heavy enough to respond to serious threats.

If you live or work in the commercial center of any city, you are bound to see women dressed in business attire with athletic shoes. These are horrible women who shun fashion footwear in favor of comfort and are therefore useless as human beings. However, we can make them pay. Naturally, their good shoes are being carried in that bag slung over their shoulders. It's inevitable since they will not be wearing athletic shoes in the office. Just pick out a real hottie, start walking right up behind her and boost a shoe from the bag, duck around the corner and shallack the sausage like nobody's business.

If that was the case, I would have probably shot many ppl by now (8 years on the job), but I've used my training and judgement to have avoided it

A shot that wont kill ??? Go ahead and aim for their leg or arm , and see if you dont accidentally hit them in the head, or midsection, and kill them
