Sure, there are many Americans who "make fun" of homosexuals and do not agree with what they stand for (no pun intended). Intolerance towards gays is indeed part of our culture, most of which stemming from older, more traditional, generations of upbringing. What eagle stated about Europe seemingly having just as much intolerance towards gays is probably true as well because this mentality stems from conservative views on religion, Catholicism and Islamic beliefs to be more specific. I do not agree with this traditional view on homosexuality though.

Maybe, as Nick hinted at earlier, it would be more appropriate to compare single US states with single EU member states/individual countries (say, California and Scandinavia). Maybe though the intolerants just happen to be slightly more vocal or occupy more prominent positions at this point in time in America. We certainly have our fair share of those too, though I think they tend to be of a different ilk (i.e. secular rather than religious, which doesn't mean they're less worse). I was actually a bit surprised at Eagle's statement about Latin countries in Europe tho, considering Spain must be the 4th country or so in the world to have allowed gay marriage, and I thought Eagle was himself from Spain. I might be mistaken though. Whatever, it's late and Im losing my ability to reason.

However this I must say : Jae, you're right. We Italians and our French cousins do turn up in England with the scope of shagging some cheap English chicks.

Just a few weeks ago I watched this movie on French Tv called "À nous les petites anglaises!", meaning "English girls, we're coming for you!". Self-explanatory isn't it? Apparently it's a classic too. Or did you really think I was planning to come to Liverpool to shake hands with Ringo and feel the cool breeze of the Irish sea whipping my skin ? Not without my facial gel scrub I wasn't:nasty:

I love gay guys, they are awesome. Call me odd, but that is what I think, they are more honest and straightforward than most other guys.

That's all I meant really. It is offensive to an English guy to have that. And not really that as much as the reaction to being knocked back. I can assure you it was alot worse than anything I've said. Complete lack of respect shown for friends of mine. Though to be fair I didn't realise the post was that off, reading back it does seem worse than the intention, sorry I guess I was flustered. Racist jibes? Yeah maybe though uncalled for? Hell no. Maybe you had to be there, truth is I said ALOT worse at the time and it was entirelt deserved.

It wasn't said about all Italians, it was clear as to the group I was referring, that was highlighted in the ORIGINAL post. So all the rest is just Incubo hype. I'm not bothered really though. It doesn't matter if I appear as racist because I admit I don't like those people.

And I don't recall getting so anal over similar remarks made about English, but whatever. Hypocritical to say the least and I just wonder how many times Nick or Andy have said such things in the real life. It's so easy to be the moral high ground on an internet board. Truth be told though, I didn't realise greasy skin was an Italian stereotype.

Honestly Nick the jock thing you have kinda missed. We dont even have jocks, it's chavs. Claire is the one that said jock all the time, I was just communicating in her terminology. I have friends that are jocks, I work with 'jocks' and I live them. I don't like their ideals, behaviour and I try hard not to be one but that doesn't mean I hate them or I'm scared of them or whatever other point you are making. And for the record, I was never beaten up at school. I'm well over 6ft ffs. The life I live leads to some disagreements sometimes. Kaiser, youre probably right about comparing single states or areas to get a better idea, but i was talking in a whole, more general sense.. and the fact that Spain government as decided to allow gay marriages, doesnt mean that most of spanish people agree with this. Much on the contrary.

But the point i was trying to make is that the individual response to homosexuality of a standart rural people in USA is not far different from the same group of people in Spain or other latin Countries. Even, i would said that rural Northamericans are a litle more open and less vindictive concerning homosexuality that their Latin european counterparts...
Governments in Latin Europe,on the other hand, are more social integration oriented and thats main reason they are taking this kind of steps. But that doesnt mean thats the standart citizen is changing is attitude or way of thinking.

btw, im not from Spain but spend part of my childhood there .
Being an hybrid three quarters italian, one quarter spanish, born in Mexico, studied in USA, make just from...nowhere.

As for why I banned "Yezkimov" I believe once a racist always a racist, and such behaviour has no place on these forums. When banned for something so serious as this I don't personally believe the said user has any right returning, whether under the same name or not .. thats an irrelevance.

I didn't ban Claire because there was never any reason to do so imo. Obviously one of the other mods subsequently thought otherwise and pulled the trigger. I'm happy with my decisions on both these memebrs at that particular point in time.
