First off, Vieira isn't nearly as good as either Emerson or Gerrard, so don't combine the two and think that you have a Vieira.
Secondly, Vieira was certainly not a primary need. An attacking midfielder, preferably a young one (you have seen the average age of our new starting 4 midfielders), was a more pressing need than another DM who I'm not even sure is still in his prime.
Yeah, this was a great move. fan-fukking-tastic. They actually decide to spend money this transfer season and they spend it on this guy.

Andy..while I respect Vieira despite dumping him in his early days because he apparently did not 'fit in' I don't think he is the PIECE OF THE PUZZLE that will bring Juve to the CL Final. Losing Emerson would be a big blow..I don't think it will happen.
Oddly, Milan announced they are 'dumping' JDT to Benfica...I actually like him and is less injury prone than the media-boys Vieri and Inzaghi

First off, I was only being sarcastic with that comparison. Secondly, are you kidding about Vieira not being at least almost as good as Emerson?
Sergio, do you remember Capello's Milan of the early to mid 90's where he won the Champions League and reached the Final three times? Well, if you don't, Capello always used two defensive midfielders in his team, either in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation. Capello would always choose to field a player like Desailly before a Savicevic in the team, and the latter always found himself out of position due to Capello's restricted tactics. The truth of the matter is Capello has no need for attacking midfielders or playmakers in his team; if you think he is even considering playing a diamond in midfield you're completely wrong. Capello will try to remake the Milan side of '93 that won the CL with his tight tactics, very much like that of last season. All we were missing last season was a great partner for Emerson who could do it all in midfield, and we found one of the best with Vieira this summer. IMO it is a very good move considering we are destined to play flat across midfield.
Better than not spending the cash at all.
