Benvenuto ancora, Nick. You wouldn't believe the kind of crap that has piled up in this thread, let alone this forum, in your absence. :)
Just the guy I wanted to talk to Swag. I will be in the Bay Area in the near future (don't PANIC I won't ask you for a lift from the airport or to crash on your couch..those favors I only ask of from Padovano)....need to book a good hotel in a location-friendly part of town. Know of any?

P.S. Cafe Trieste still opened I take it?
P.S.S. Is the Spanish Steps all its made out to be?? or did it already fizzle?

Ahh Nick, its good to have you back, bro.

And as far as the mid-life crisis is concerned, you're just jealous :D
Perhaps..while you have become lean and mean my relatives back home remarked that I became 'an espresso cup' whatever the hell that means. I still think that the guy posing with the Stang is not really you but an actor you hired to pose next to your neighbors car...
I think I remember seeing that actor as an extra in Goodfellas and Casino credited as playing "Shady Mafioso #3" :cheesy:

    Hey Nick --

You're welcome any time here! I'd be happy to show you around. We should at least meet up for lunch or something (I work pretty much downtown).

This time of year, the weather can be literally quite cold in the city (60F, foggy, and windy), so be prepared. Drive any ways out of the city, and you will fry like an egg.

As for a hotel, other than my place (I never stay at hotels around here!)... hmmm... to pick something offhand, the Hotel Triton isn't half bad if you like funky design and a good location. It's near more of the "French quarter" of town (if you can call it that), it's also at the mouth of Chinatown and nearby a number of places within walking distance. A little small, but decent. The Andrews Hotel is supposedly a good place if you're going on the cheap. The Orchard Hotel is pretty good if you have a little more cash to spend and you want to go a little classier.

Cafe Trieste is still there. Swing by on a weekend afternoon and there will be much Italian singing in the place.

Spanish Steps? I'm guessing you're thinking the Steps of Rome cafe in SF. It's one of the few places I could catch RAI Int'l to watch games in a public, more social environment. But even they have let their standards down. I wouldn't rave about it, but it's worth a visit.

I've taken my espresso tasting to the level of a sick obsession, so if you want to know more about the where and all, I welcome you to check out my unpublicized pet project in PHP:

Well, isn't this an accurate description of my compatriots. Almost like looking at myself in a mirror. Now maybe I should return the favour and paint my own small-minded picture of the male inhabitants from that misty island soaking off the coast of Brittany. I'll base it strictly on the specimens I meet every summer around Europe though, because the English I frequent in Brussels quite clearly belong to a different category.

    So, broadly, I :

    - Hate them for being cocky and ignorant. And I do mean ignorant. Seriously they know **** all all about shit.
    - Hate them for assuming everyone speaks English and for making no effort whatsoever to learn at least some local words, let alone the local culture.
    - Hate their absolute lack of taste for everything, from clothing to cuisine. Actually no I don't hate this part, it just makes me piss from laughter, so don't change a thing.
    - Hate to see them spend the day getting drunk, shouting and polluting like they own the damn place.

You want to change your image, then drop the better than thou attitude and stop behaving like assholes. Better yet, stay at home and spend the summer in fantastic Pudsley.
    thats also true

Well done Libero and Nick, as I applaud your efforts in fighting the completely unsolicitated bigotry that finds its way in here.

@ Jae Cole - You know I gave Burke shit for his racist rant, even though it was all too predictable. But what the Fvck are you on about? This crap is out of character for you, so I am a bit shocked. Please don't bring that shit back here again.

Yes, over the period of a couple of years, that is all me. I told you it was sick and obsessive!

As for the HTML? What can I say, Martin. I'm so old school, it's surprising I didn't write it in LaTeX. :)

Funny... I just Googled myself (haven't done that in ages) to look up some HTML stuff I was involved in, and the third link down is some archived e-mail from 1998 when I was debating future standards for HTML & XML as part of a W3C working group. I made no mention of stylesheets. ;)

Thanks for the tips Greg. Actually, I lived in the bay area (San Mateo) for a year (years ago) so I remember the weather quite well and the confused tourists "but isn't this California?"
Wow.. you really are an espresso nut. I have way too much espresso (guaranteed heart attack by 40 for this Paesano). That said, some of the best places in Rome use either Illy or there own 'mix' (roast) but always with illy in the picture. Personally, I find lavazza over-rated (especially the red label) which seems to be the choice for most 'yuppies' who think they are 'hip' when they purchase it.

    Right since I'm a bigot.

The remark was quite intentional. That is what I think and often say to those people when they annoy me by how the act. When they can't keep their hands to themselves around my female friends, when they curse at, push or even spit on them. That is all I know of Italians, because that is all I have seen. That is what Italians have shown themselves to be to me. I already put the disclaimer that not all are like that I'm sure. But I can only talk about what I've seen. Why would I tell Nicole other reasons for not liking Italians if these are the real reasons? I'm sure I could like many Italians, but fact is when they come here and I see them as that, then I have no respect for them at all.

Just like you can assume most English are drunken bastards with no class (because they are), most Americans are idiots with an ego (because they are). Does that make me a bigot? Fine then.

    No apologies.

Oh yeah and believe it or not but this Italian is white, dry skinned, clean and light-haired and actually has a very manly accent.

    Regards.
You spend time in London bars degrading women? If not then this is irrelevent.

Though I guess I could always mentioned the outside influence factor. ;)
