You're welcome any time here! I'd be happy to show you around. We should at least meet up for lunch or something (I work pretty much downtown).

This time of year, the weather can be literally quite cold in the city (60F, foggy, and windy), so be prepared. Drive any ways out of the city, and you will fry like an egg.

As for a hotel, other than my place (I never stay at hotels around here!)... hmmm... to pick something offhand, the Hotel Triton isn't half bad if you like funky design and a good location. It's near more of the "French quarter" of town (if you can call it that), it's also at the mouth of Chinatown and nearby a number of places within walking distance. A little small, but decent. The Andrews Hotel is supposedly a good place if you're going on the cheap. The Orchard Hotel is pretty good if you have a little more cash to spend and you want to go a little classier.

Cafe Trieste is still there. Swing by on a weekend afternoon and there will be much Italian singing in the place.

Spanish Steps? I'm guessing you're thinking the Steps of Rome cafe in SF. It's one of the few places I could catch RAI Int'l to watch games in a public, more social environment. But even they have let their standards down. I wouldn't rave about it, but it's worth a visit.

Funny... I just Googled myself (haven't done that in ages) to look up some HTML stuff I was involved in, and the third link down is some archived e-mail from 1998 when I was debating future standards for HTML & XML as part of a W3C working group. I made no mention of stylesheets.

Thanks for the tips Greg. Actually, I lived in the bay area (San Mateo) for a year (years ago) so I remember the weather quite well and the confused tourists "but isn't this California?"
Wow.. you really are an espresso nut. I have way too much espresso (guaranteed heart attack by 40 for this Paesano). That said, some of the best places in Rome use either Illy or there own 'mix' (roast) but always with illy in the picture. Personally, I find lavazza over-rated (especially the red label) which seems to be the choice for most 'yuppies' who think they are 'hip' when they purchase it.

The remark was quite intentional. That is what I think and often say to those people when they annoy me by how the act. When they can't keep their hands to themselves around my female friends, when they curse at, push or even spit on them. That is all I know of Italians, because that is all I have seen. That is what Italians have shown themselves to be to me. I already put the disclaimer that not all are like that I'm sure. But I can only talk about what I've seen. Why would I tell Nicole other reasons for not liking Italians if these are the real reasons? I'm sure I could like many Italians, but fact is when they come here and I see them as that, then I have no respect for them at all.

Just like you can assume most English are drunken bastards with no class (because they are), most Americans are idiots with an ego (because they are). Does that make me a bigot? Fine then.
