Agree with all of that. The EPL is exciting, yes, but by all means not the best League in the world.

How does a bad defence make a league worse? Couldnt you also say over reliance on defence makes a league worse? 2 sided coin.

Also i wasnt posting in response to anyone indirectly, i was posting about the beliefs everyone lives by. Same everywhere. The English think the Italian league is inferior, the Italian the English etc etc.

I dont think there is a better league out of the spanish, english or italian leagues. They differ thats all. Its a preference.

I prefer the Italian league by far, but i wont say its better than the rest.

And besides why even discuss it. Its like going into a gay bar and asking if being straight is better.

Not really. A bad defence means teams concede goals, meaning they get knocked out of tournaments. Over-reliance on defence could call for boring, 1-0 football, but we're talking about the ability of teams from respective leagues to compete on the European stage, and I'd rather have a team that plays boring football and wins 1-0 than one that goes up 2-0, but concedes a goal on 45 minutes and doesn't mark a player like Fernando Morientes properly

You're talking about mentality here, not tactics. Italian teams are very defensive-minded, and you're right, they might sit on a goal lead and try to defend the whole match, but in terms of scoring goals, the tactics are very different. Italian teams are used to playing in Italy(duh), where the defences are stronger, and as such they have to be able to break down the most stubborn of defences, whereas English teams have a "Hey, this long ball from halfway onto Michael Owen's foot tactic really works" mentality, which just doesn't cut it against Europe's elite.

Okay just to clarify before we drop it

I wasn't saying that all English teams do that, I was saying that it's a tactic that works against English defences, and one that wouldn't cut it in other leagues.

And i think some of the EPL debating here is getting alittle retareded. Different leagues have different styles, because its different from Serie A dosent mean its worse. Infact watching EPL games are often more exciting that most Italian league games.

Manchester Uniteds defence sucks ass this year, so yeah small italian teams defence can make them blush but dont think MU wont fix that problem immediately.

Seems people forget the beatings we have taken from United recently.

EPL more exciting than Serie A....I guess much like watching Pro Wrestling is more exciting than watching olympic wrestling. To quote myself "sell that bullshite to the tourists Geeves"...WTF you sound like someone back home telling me WHY baseball is better than soccer. My preferences do not blur my vision at all infact I would watch a Juve-Siena match 8 times before I watch 10 minutes of a FA Cup final in a human propelled ping pong match. Just trying to deterimine when the long ball will hit the target and be batted in behind the keeper.
Defensive midfielders and defenders are both foreign to the EPL as is strategy beyond giving the ball air time reminscint of an NFL punt. I CAN appreciate the talent of some English players but I can't appreciate the lack of tactic, passing and mechanics of a team.
Lets not even open the discussion on English players in Italy versus the Italian players in EPL: Vialli , Ravanelli, Di Canio, Di Matteo, Zola, Silenzi...labeled as "cooked' in Italy and being re-invented in EPL.
