Note: I didn't even bother to comment on EPL vis-a-vis Serie A...
Exciting..perhaps...but is there anything more predictable...it reminds me of the NFL and NHL in a way...the long floaters from midfield are like 60-80 hail mary's into the end zone ... or the other strategy is NHL style "dump" the ball into the end and ensue chase...its like a ping pong match on the field.
Sergio nailed the defenders job spot on.

    REPORT:

Cafu and Roma President Franco Sensi were ordered to stand trial on Monday on charges of falsely obtaining an Italian passport for the former Roma star.

What is it about Roman clubs and false passports?

Andrew, I call the EPL "Video Game Football".

Here's the strategy for most, if not all of the EPL squads.

The defensemen's job is to mug and foul any attacker that comes near them, instead of actually trying to cleanly dis-posses the ball.

The Midfielder's job is to volley 50 metre bombs across the pitch in the hope that A) the ball acutally makes it to one of their strikers, or B) the defense will totally foul it all up, and turn the ball over to the attacking team.

Which leaves the strikers' job, with the exception of Thierry Henry, to be the ultimate poachers and clean up the mess.

Whenever I watch the EPL, I'm reminded of a tennis match, with the action constantly going back and forth, with no buildup, no counter-attacking, and no strategy in place. Just pure fast-break football.

However, that type of style does lend itself to a lot of goal-scoring, which in turn will attract the US market, as small as it may be, because we Americans are only concerned about points.

At least, that's what they would have you believe.
    Great post.

HA! A tennis match, with 11 players on a side! That is basically what it is, really.

I consider Serie A to be much more exciting anyway. I don't consider watching some half-arse player with little skill dribble past defenders who seem like they wouldn't even know what to do if a beach ball came their way to be entertaining. I love how in the Serie A you must be top-notch to beat the defense, which includes good build up play and an "every touch matters" mentality. In Italy defending is an art; in England defending is a circus. I love to watch the kind of calcio that tests all of a player's and teams' capability, and that is found only in Italy.

Hell Serge, I would even consider watching myself play FIFA 2004 to be more entertaining than watching the EPL. :D

What, getting 3 Italian teams into the semifinals of the CL isn't enough for you?

:D Okay okay, that's just one season, but it was truly a high point for calcio

Maybe the game would be more marketable if they awarded 10 points for every goal scored, 15 if it was from outside the box, and 20 if it was scored from 30 yards or more :)
Sadly, that probably is true. I don't get the fascination everybody here has with high scoring sports. Why does the score really matter?

Alright, I'll see what I can do. Hopefully I'll be free at that time. I'll give you a PM later.

Don't worry. This time I want to play with DC United, the best team in America......well, maybe North America.......

I agree with the NFL part, but not the NHL. The playing area for hockey is quite small compared to that of a football pitch, so the gameplay is very fast. And with all the players in the NHL becoming faster and stronger, puck carriers have less time with it and must get rid of the puck to avoid getting smashed by a defensemen. Not all NHL teams play a dump and chase system, like my team the Red Wings. But against the Flamers, we could not handle their fast "dump and chase like chickens with their heads cut off" style, unfortunatly. I hate that gameplan as well, but I think it might become the best system in hockey after teams like Calgary and San Jose had success with it this year. But I hope it doesn't happen though, I like more of a controlled build up so TRUE skill can be showcased.

Yeah, Boca must have a terrible defense. :D

But Zambrotta did all the work for that goal........well......I did. :D

Hopefully Convey, Nelson, and whoever can come good for me today.

Nick, Serge, and Pado: I have an important question for you guys.

Do you think that the EPL is the best League in the World?

I personally do not think so. One of my biggest pet peevs on this subject is that so many people in the U.S. believe that the EPL is by far the best League in the world. I say how could it be? Only one English team has played in the Champions League Final in the past 17 years; Man U, who were actually even lucky to win it. And having Arsenal go undefeated in the EPL really puts icing on the cake. Is the League so bad that no one can beat a team like Arsenal? While Arsenal lost at home to a team in disaray in the C.L., namely Inter. I'm perplexed with how so many people think the EPL is the best.
Most of this country ONLY see's the EPL and MLS, so its a no-brainer which one they think is best.

Not much of this country gets to see Serie A

btw- good analysis on the EPL Serge......but its still entertaining to watch !!

Who come up with the brain storm idea of discussing illegal music transfer on a public forum?

And i think some of the EPL debating here is getting alittle retareded. Different leagues have different styles, because its different from Serie A dosent mean its worse. Infact watching EPL games are often more exciting that most Italian league games.

Manchester Uniteds defence sucks ass this year, so yeah small italian teams defence can make them blush but dont think MU wont fix that problem immediately.

Seems people forget the beatings we have taken from United recently.

Dont let your preferences scew your opinions.

Right, just look at all this new material:
    -Transfer speculation
    -Gambling/Match Fixing Scandal
    -False Passport Trial
-Financial invetigation of all Serie A and B clubs

We've got it all now. This thread did start out as a scandal sheet, didn't it?
