Thanks Bro...

Vin you wanna make a killing here..offer consultations on security for matches! Because there is none at this point!
Thanks for the offer, but the whole of Italian policing has to change.

Things are way too liberal, and matters are only going to get worse as time goes on....

Maybe next time, those thugs WILL be responsible for an innocent woman or child being killed.........

i disagree.. The games i went to in the us last year and at the world cup previously were jus about the least atmospheric occasions i have ever been to... They werent football... not to me anyway... jmo
Thats because American fans are not as crazed as the English (sorry Paul !!) or Italians when it comes to soccer.

Again, safety is the biggest issue here

If you consider not having flares at the games as "least atmospheric" than I think thats crazy

Thank God youre ok!! that sounded like a total hell, although I would hate to go to a football game in the USA where everythings organized and stuff... it should be in a medium level, not too tight but not too violent like in Italy
Fabi .. I know what you mean ..when it is too organized it is not fun and too controlled but a good American football match is not like that. The fans can drink, cheer have a good time but once violence breaks out ..thats it! One fight and a swarm of police end it.
The difference in Italy is that the police don't grab the bad apple out...and if they try the other fans start hitting them ...its like a us against them mentality. In the U.S. where most tickets are expensive the fans dont' want one asshole to ruin the game and so are happy to see him thrown out.

Look usually I have told people back home: You have not experienced a sporting event if you have not been to a match in Italy. However, with this sh*t transpiring its out of control.
Last week was almost funny..the piss balloons and genetically altered pears made for throwing (!)..the scene was nuts but like a food fight type of nuts.
Tonight...forget it..at this point it is almost 2 am and I'm still wired...I was on adrelaine for 2 hours leaving the stadium. As we walked some just looked at us and were waiting for us to look back so as to pick a fight....others throwing glass bottles next to us to get a reaction out of us...at other areas fans were ripping everything: bus signs, over turning bus stops, advertisements, cars, vespas being smashed to pieces. Do these people really care about the game or the sport or is the game just their reason to be crazy.

Its not about flares... you wont see a flare in england... though personally i have no problem with flares.

I find the americans to far in the other direction, they remove the fun and the atmosphere.

The italian problem is more about politics than anything else, and also the power of fan groups, there is not a team in italy where you dont see heads of fan groups talking to the players and staff... But yes they need to find a balance... which is something the english police have now found since they decided to clear up the problems some years ago.

Generally english stadiums have the best atmosphere of all the european leagues, but also with far less violence.

Yes and No. Compared to a European match.... The atmosphere is NOT that of Italy, England, Spain, etc. But you have to understand that most are Italian immigrants and the next generations...especially from the eastern U.S. and Canada. Move over, The groups (fighters, fdl, etc) are not going to organize anything like in a CL Final or Inter. Cup. Thus all you have is individuals who are happy to see the players come from abroad and are still in awe during the game.

Thats a good point. I was just happy to see the teams play live, because its not like they come over here very often

I may be wrong but I got the impression that the fdl were like fighters in being based in the home end at the san siro... so like fighters dont have too much contact with the away fans... please clarify?
To answer your earlier question ...

Well this is a rookie response but...

    yes you are correct.
There are two MAJOR sections where the FDL et al. will be. The infamous leaders who have inside contacts are situated more in the middle of the field and not in the Curva..these are the older leaders and those with player meetings, etc. A place in there I have been told is close to impossible unless you know someone..however once you are in..you are in. Your place is also reserved regardless on who arrives at what time, etc.
The real Curva is almost opposite the visiting area so the contact is fairly far. Here each group usually has its area.
On the left (I think it is) of the visitors area is controlled by police and as you probably noticed is usually empty. On the right is the "red" tribuna which is not as accesible as the Curva's in terms of seating so there is little tension. This is the first level.
On the second there are no organized groups from what I know and as a result there is no FDL, Comm. Tigre or Brig. presence. I guess its a similiar situation to Delle Alpi.

VINMAN: I know the feeling too..in the 94 World Cup I was so happy to be there I could care less about the songs, etc. It was just amazing to see Baggio, Maldini, etc.

Typical.... the "bad boys" are always ready for battle.

I was seeing the match and i didnt realized why those guys were talking with Totti !!!.

This event was shamefull.... Just imagine if this guys were trying to attack the player... they could have easily stabbed totti if thay wanted.

I bet Padovano is gonna love that one
Oh yes, Padovano does love that one! But I love anything with genetically altered fruit :D

Nick raises a correct point - part of the reason there is almost zero crowd violence in the USA is that there is no audience for the jackasses and trouble makers. In Europe, it seems very easy to get a mob together. One guy throws a bottle at the opposition, then everyone is throwing objects. In the USA, if one person throws anything, the entire crowd around him points him out to the police, and he is removed immediately.

I love that attitude, and i'd probably do the same. Call me a spoilsport, but i don't pay my money to have the game ruined by idiots who just want an excuse to get into fights. Sure, I might like to experience once or twice the full passion that they have in Italy or South America, but not on a regular basis.

Right, there needs to be a balance. Live the game with 100% passion, but as soon as you get violent, the police fire a shoulder cannon at you. These cannons only fire genetically altered pears, you know - rotten on the top and hard as rock on the bottom. Once these idiots get hit with a couple mutant pears they will learn to behave.

    Interesting debate/conversation:

At this point in my "sports" viewing experience I have a foot in both sides of the "coin". I miss the safety of the Stadium games but have become addicted to the choreography (fanfare) the new and creative ways the tifosi show support for their team and once in a while I enjoy a good old fashioned food fight with rotting or UnRipened vegtables (getting those in the back sting like a MoFo), free run hen laying eggs (bigger and gooey-er) and the genetically modified "Pear". When the pee balloons, flares being tossed around like frisebees and coins thrown like we are the fontana di Trevi I started to sweat and again long for the Big chested state trooper to break every violation in the police ethics code when they pull the "bad apple" out of the stadium.
The problem here is that there is also this US versus them mentality between police and fans...if a cop gets stuck in an area with 10 or more fans its "GAME OVER" for him.
Padovano is right...there has to be some sort of balance between the best of both worlds ... the utopian game. Whatever.
