No, Nick, not calabrese. Veneziano actually, but very low class of you to think taht it is an insult calling me Calabrian. But then you and your Forza Italia/Northern League Ultra right-wing buddies do think the southern Italians are subhuman. What was it that Lac called you that so upset you??

Anyway, I looked at the sources that you referred me to, and those sources do indicate that I was wrong. Curses, foiled again. Hoisted by my own pitard.

I'm half Sicilian..there goes another theory of yours Roby. More over, the political system in Italy forces any moderate right wing party (Berlusconi's Forza Italia) to align with the parties making up even one seat on the right. It is the reason a Party such as Forza Italia has no choice but to align with La Lega Nord for a majority government. It is also the reason that a party such as Roma Mayor Rutelli must align with the new wave of Red Bridgades in Italy and hard line communists. Until the system of voting is changed to a two tier one such as in France where the voters vote with all the parties and the two remaining then vie for a majority government. Instead in Italy it is and always has been coalitions that make up the majority so if a party such as Forza Italia which essentially has an social economic platform has 55 seats and a party like Lega Nord has 2 and Fini's party has 4 then Forza Italia cannot distance themselves from these small parties because their "no confidence" vote could result in the government collapsing. don't be naive..there is more than meets the eye here. Its as if the GOP Republican party had to align themselves with the Montana Militia and Pat Buchanan's Christian extermists to create a majority government.

Takes a big man to admit they are wrong...can't say the same about others. Cheers Robert.

    THE BUILDING:fero:
Well, it seems I have missed one great thread here. I love how the server identified the "p))enis" of the word "Pe))nisola" as foul language.

Anyway Pado, I am afraid Incubo did indeed rest his case here :

"E questo è il primo anno in cui è prevista la retrocessione in seconda categoria"

i.e. "and this is the first season in which relegation to the second division has been planned"

"Ma la Juve riesce a scongiurare questa onta: grandi manovre diplomatiche coinvolgono i più grandi esponenti della federazione di quel tempo. Alla fine si trova la soluzione: i bianconeri vengono iscritti l'anno successivo al girone Lombardo dove manca una squadra.

i.e. "But Juve managed to avoid the embarrassement : extensive diplomatic negotiations were held, involving the most prominent members of the Federation at the time. The solution they came up with was to register the bianconeri to the Lombardy group the following year, which was missing one team."

I wasn't aware that the Red Brigades had formed their own party. Anyway, the centre-left is in such shambles at the moment that Bertinotti's intransigence remains a trivial problem.

However, allow me to make a slight differencition between right and left as regards reliance on smaller parties. Whereas the small parties of the left more or less agree on the same issues and stem from a common ideology, Fini's Alleanza Nazionale and Bossi's Lega defend diametrically opposed views. Whereas Fini, as a faithful heir of the Repubblica di Salò, is the advocate of a strong and unified Italy, where the Northern regions would keep financing the development of the South, Bossi is allergic to "Roma ladrona" (the inefficent central government allegedly sucking off the North's resources), and is very much pro-federalism (he used to call it "separatism" before he entered office...one has to make concessions once in power). I guess it took a wizard like Berlusca to make these two specimens coexist in a coalition government.

Zizou, I have no idea what you are talking about. In the entire decade of the 1950's, Juventus was never close to relegation. In fact Juve was quite good then, winning the scudetto in 1950, 1952, 1958, and 1960.
I did say that I was not sure of the period ;) It must have been the 60s then but again I'm not sure.

It was most probably the 60's, as that decade was characterized by the Milan/Inter supremacy, both in Italy and in Europe.

In fact, the Old Lady was hardly "Italy's favourite team" at the time, although it did produce Sivori, the first "italian" player to be awarded the Golden Ball.

Figure of speech meets sarcasm actually. Hardly possible as some of the "old school" Aldo Moro crisis members are still in exile.

    Anyhow....

Good point...but he has little choice if he wants Forza Italia to survive. A shame really as a party has to play mediator/arbitrator and/or babysitter rather than carry out its mandate.

Editorial of the Week (Journalist P-O-V: Not my own)

    Milan

If I had to give an award for the best team in Europe so far it has got to be AC Milan. Last season their performances may have been more spectacular than this year, but there is a consistency and confidence of Carlos Ancelotti's side that must be respected. Their Champions' League campaign was by no means perfect, and they did lose the World Club Cup to Boca on penalties (in a match they had the slight better of), but they are on course to capture the three major competitions they are in (Serie A, Champions' League, and the Coppa Italia). They looked good against Roma in midweek dumping Capello and co. out of the Coppa, and also had an exhilarating final 20 minutes on Sunday against Ancona by scoring five goals in that time to come through with an emphatic victory. Last season they started off fast and then came down to earth though they still captured the CL. What can you say about this season then? They begun relatively slowly and now seem to be getting stronger as the season carries on. I don't imagine any side even the Manchesters and Reals will fancy going up against this Milan.

Hence the word editorial Fli Fli.

My My Zebras get very bitter when they are not in the spotlight...Funny you say that actually because Gazzetta dello Sport Editorials (as always) keep reporting on how "good" a job Juve is doing to stay afloat...i.e. the half is always half full I guess.

Come on...do YOU even know what Prosciutto is??!
