I think saying Italian and Irish in the same sentence in this discussion is about the most retarded thing I have ever heard. I've never in my life seen an Italian racial abused. I think if you are Irish even today you'll laugh at getting turned away from bars or clubs because you'll be used to it.

In American it is popular to beat up on whoever is new in the neighborhood. Kind of like picking on the new kid in school. My point by mentioning the Irish was that it isn't such a big deal. Its not like my ancestors were forced to pick cotton or not allowed to vote. We were just asked to pick ourselves out of the gutter after a Saturday night and not marry rich people.

As you probably noticed, I don't even rant about this nonsense anymore. It's a lost cause, and the English Football clowns will continue firing off their anal cannons in unison for the foreseeable and unforeseeable future.

These people could use some flying heads to knock some sense into them.
RIP Todd and Timmy

You're only proving my point. This is what happens to Italian Americans. It obviously isn't a feeling common amongst Italians, as they aren't a minority in Italy.
But they are in Africa.

My point being, you tried to tell Vinman he isn't Italian after he has lived most of his life having to live as an Italian whether he wanted to or not. Things are different today, and there are no problems in most places, but after growing up being handed a shit sandwich because of your ethnicity, you tend to get a bit angry when someone says your not Italian, now that it's ok to be Italian.

Back when I was applying to universities, it was a major advantage to check the race and gender boxes for White and Male. 20 years later, these are both major disadvantages. So, you cannot require that I cehck the "Other" race box in 1984, and then tell me in 2000 that I must check "White". Try to disadvantage me like the Black Females of the old days, and I get pissed off too :)

Never did understand how they arrive at what race a person is, and have never known what to check. I mean, one box says White: Of European Ancestry. Then Hispanic includes Spanish and Portugese. So, when the hell did Spain and Portugal leave Europe. Since I'm Italian and feel closer in blood to Spanish and Portugese than I do to German and Swedish, I make my own and write "Latin (Non-Hispanic)".
Word....
This whole system is highly discriminatory anyway. Obviously you and Vinman both have to check white. The problem IMO doesn't lie in the present, but rather in the past. Because, as you say, you obviously are of European Ancestry. As for "Italian", Vinman might be Italian in America, but he's not Italian in Italy.

I never quite understood how America, which is a country of immigrants, has a past of blatant racism towards certain ethnicities. Sure, racism is a European "value", but nonetheless it's odd that it should be so prevalent in America. Perhaps it's a twisted form of selfdefinition, because every immigrant has to define himself one way or the other.
I define you as the Waffle.

Pado, most every culture that immigrated to the US has faced this sort of thing. With the exception of the WASPs. Even the Irish used to be below Italians, blacks and jews on the haterade food chain at one time. My mom and dad didn't almost weren't able to be married because my pops family is protestant and mom's is catholic.

If it makes you guys feel any better. I have never denied an Italian entry to my place of business. And I love your women.
Word, respek!
What the fuck is that?
did you watch my sox nut all over the rockies faces last nite? dude beckett is cold motherfuckign blooded
What was the final?

It's funny, most think of racial tension here as a Black v. White scenario. However, in places such as mt home city, where there are no Blacks, it becomes ancestoral. Irish v. Italian, England v. everydody else. Human nature is such that everybody needs someone to feel superior to. "So the English make us wops feel like were second class, ok, at least we're better than those Puerto Ricans. They hardly speak English". That sort of thing.

Don't mind me, I'm just tossing my banana.
I will say this much...the Irish vs. Italian animosity even transcends into my, and many other large police departments in New York state

When I was in the academy some 10 years ago, during breaks between classes, the Irish congregated on one side of the hallway, while the Italians were on the other side of the hallway. Anyone else (black, Puerto Rican) were welcome to hang with us as well. Every vote we had during the academy (class president, platoon leader, even where we were going to have our graduation party) went according to ethnic lines. It was fucking ridiculous, and 10 years later, things haven't changed

I find it surprising that despite all that you (not everyone) as Italian-Americans went through, you have animosity towards Arab-Americans or Muslims living in America in general. One would think that all that struggle would have made you more open-minded, yet a person like Incubodoodoo sits here and addresses his every post towards me by stating "should I call homeland security?"

Why are you pointing me out...where have I ever said that I didnt want Muslims living in my country ?

I have no problems with Muslims living in America, making better lives for themselves and their families just like my family has done.

My problem lies with those who are here with alterior motives...who believe that America is satan and must be destroyed (and there are a good number here who are like that...whether you agree or not)

One of the guys on my soccer team is a Yemeni, and also a first cousin of one of the "Lackawanna six". I was skeptical about letting him play on my team, but once I talked with him, I realized that I cannot blame him for his cousin's disgrace. Now, if he shows up at one of our games sporting a bulky vest that he says is for soccer "training", then I'll know that I was wrong !! :p
