What about the MLB?

No real salary cap there.....

And real soccer hasn't one either.
Major league baseball has two things going for it where a salary cap really isn't necessary.

#1) Revenue Sharing.

#2) A very strict Luxury tax threshold where if a team's salary exceeds the threshold, they are required to pay a dollar for dollar penalty to Major League Baseball.

You're right, Soccer doesn't have a salary cap, but the revenue structure is very very different. Also, with teams being relegated and promoted every year, you really can't have any sort of fiscal and spending stability.

And look at Juventus right now. Being demoted will absolutely kill them next year, and for a few years after that, without the revenue streams from sponsors and TV contract that they lost this year.

Now, imagine if they had a salary cap in Serie A, and Juventus was demoted. Its bad enough that they lost several players this year, but if there were ACTUAL salary limitations, they would have lost EVERYONE, simply because they would have been WAY over the cap with the likes of Del Piero, Trez, Camo, Buffon.

I just saw Al Gore on Oprah (you guys probably saw this a whole while back) and he was so damn paternalistic.

Gore: "It's the CO2 that's causing the global warming"
Oprah: "So we need to do something about the CO2?"
Gore: "Yes, because it's causing global warming."
Oprah: "So CO2 is the cause of all this?"
Gore: "Yes, that's why we need to cut down on it."

And it went on like that for a while. After an intense discussion that lasted for about half an hour they concluded something needed to be done about the C02. Well that's just great, but how the fuck do you expect such an idiotic show to help anyway? As an American I would be downright insulted, I'm not a five year old.

This is absolutely wonderful news.

This might be only the beginning. You could very well see stars from Europe leaving to join the MLS. Don't laugh. It could very well happen. Think of the amount of money they could make just by endorsements alone in this country.

MLS has finally stepped up to the plate.

This is just unbelievable. I am beyond thrilled with this.
MLS image is gathering momentum in Holland. A former PSV keeper (Waterreus) has just moved to NYC and more players are considering playing in the States for a season or two. But of course that's Holland, and we're Atlanticists. Might not be the same in Germany and beyond

Simply great news for the MLS. Now all the cameras will be turned to this league, and when that happens, ka-ching, ka-ching. Having perhaps the biggest and most overrated name in football play for an American team will stir interest not only in this country, but will also make more Europeans follow the game in the States. More people watching and more interest means more money, and to build a top quality league, that is where the ballgame begins.
It might, but I'm not sure it will at all. Europeans are very self-centered when it comes to football. IF they show interest in a foreign league besides the CL and UEFAcup where their own teams participate in, it's usually a neighbouring European league.

Aahh yes, Al Gore. When he was touring through Holland he had a couple of slides of what this country would look like when the sea levels would seriously rise: flooded all the way until the German border, sinking even Maastricht, leaving only one piece of land dry: the Alblasserwaard between Rotterdam and Dordrecht (some of the lowest land in the country). He sure did his homework

As an American, I can't watch Oprah. I don't want to totally malign the woman, but you also have to realize she is reaching out to an audience that didn't realize the written book existed until she had to regularly tell her viewers about it. So it's kind of hard to expect your audience to realize there's this thing called an atmosphere when they are still smearing their feces on cave walls.
