I thought that was a very interesting bill, Paul. Gambling is big and a lot of companies will lose big money over it, I can't believe it's gone through. The religious nuts must be celebrating.

In Norway online gambling was online legalized about a year ago, before that Norwegians gambling on "foreign" sites were in violation, finally they changed that rule. I would never would think a country, the US of all, would pass a bill to reverse that.

Talking of money... Party gaming shed 2bilion off its value today on the back of this...

As for the Bill... Personally im very sceptical of the motives behind this law...

What do the Americans amongst us think about the house passing 'The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act' ?

On the surface it's the reaffirmation of the hypocrisy in this country when it comes to gambling, where spreads on sporting events are splattered all over the place but you cant legally bet(unless you go on 3-5 hour plane ride). But essentially it's just way to keep gambling money here in the US.

I heard on BBC this morning an interview with a woman that lost 27K on internet roulette. How fricking ridiculous. Roulette over the internet? I should call her on the phone and ask "how many fingers am I holding up" then tell her she's wrong and charge her credit card another thousand. Where are the safeguards against fraud?

As for the bill, just another attempt by America to pass itself off as Santa Claus while keeping the billionaire members of congress rich. They probable all own stock in Las Vegas casinos.

Well I have to admit that gambling really isn't a civil liberty, but the ability to purchase is. And I get what your saying about it screwing over non US online gambling companies. But you guys have to remember it only passed the House (unless I just skimmed an outdated version) and it has two more stops before it comes into Law. The Senate, which is home to a few strict Constitutionalists (one is from my State) and the Supreme Court which has ruled favorably in civil rights cases recently. So don't fret yet. However, don't expect a veto from the President.

It was a lot to her, in fact she was putting it into perspective and stated that she had paid right around 27K pounds for her house - the same she lost on internet gaming. All on the credit cards to boot.
