WTF ?!

Is this a driving test or a rally time trial???
Friend of mine went to live in San Francisco for six months, he wanted to buy a car but for insurance purposes, it would be better if he took an American license in addition to his Dutch one. When he had taken the test, passed it, he was like: "I've never done anything this easy in my life"

Here, all you do is get in the car with them (your own car), and drive around for 15 minutes in the local town. The only special manoeuvre is that you pull up next to a long, empty curb (which they lead you to), and you reverse 100 feet while staying within 3 feet of the curb. Other than that, you just drive around for 10 minutes, then go back and the dumb Azn bitch tells you that you endangered a biker :pumpkin: :D
Your OWN car and all you gotta do is do that easy reverse manoeuvre? That's crazy. How the hell did you manage to fail? :D

I did the reversing bullshit fine. All they ever grade you on is how many times you look both ways for no reason :lazy:

Oh yeah that one. My driving instructor told me I should move my head more, instead of just turning my eyes, when I check the mirrors etc. Told me it would increase my chances of passing the test :wth:

Valeri Bojinov spoke of his hopes for a big future with the Old Lady at this afternoon’s press conference: “Juventus belongs at the top and I will do everything in my power to see the team challenging for trophies again, in Italy and in Europe.

sebi, is there a theory exam too or just the driving one?

It's different in every state, I think, but in California you're eligible for a Permit when you're 15 and a half. The permit allows you to drive with any licensed driver 25 years or older in the front seat with you, and to get one you have to complete drivers ed (theory), which I did online. The drivers ed is really a big joke, if you go to the classes you actually learn, but the website I did it on was a complete money scam. You just have to pass 5 ten question multiple choice quizzes, with a score of 7 or higher, and you have as many chances as you like, so you just guess and most likely pass them all first time.

Once youve finished that, and enrolled in a behind-the-wheel school, you can apply for your permit, which you get by passing a 50 question theory test, which is really easy. I just guessed them all and passed :D

After you've held a permit for 6 months, are 16 years old, and have finished 6 hours of professional driver training, you can take the behind the wheel test, which i failed.

It's really all a joke. 80% of the kids that have licenses here would shit themselves if they tried to drive in europe. No one even drives a manual car (im the only one i know of), they all have automatic SUV's :D

Yea that's exactly what happened. I did look, I just didn't do a super exaggerated turn-your-head look.

16 years bah. I think the bar should be raised to 21

Automatics are for lamers so they can boost their ego by falsely convincing themselves they can drive.

As if you and I really can drive. :D

I still struggle with parking. Been practicing for ages and I still have no idea how much space I got on any side. :disagree:

I'm sure I would wipe the floor with your average American with the same amount of driving experience. Not because they stink by nature (back off, Andy) but because (from what I gather) our tests and training are simply much harder.

Parallel parking is my achilles heel. I try to avoid it

Yeah, sure, if you drop the drinking age to 16. :lazy:

However for us it's very different than for you guys. We don't have satisfactory public transport. It's not like cities where you can walk 5 minutes to meet up with your friends, your friends, on average, live like 3-5 miles away. There are only trains between cities, not local destinations, and the buses are literally only used by the poorest of the poor. Cars are absolutely neccesary here, it's not like in a major city where you can get away without owning one. Before online shopping came out, without a car it was impossible to get food :D

Here, maybe 98% of kids drive automatics. I'm actually glad that I have a manual just to be different:D

Everytime I try to park, the following process takes place:

1. I pull in
2. I notice that I'm not going to make it in the spot
3. I yell "FUCK"
4. I reverse out
5. I repeat the process a few more times, until I get it semi-right

:D

Be that as it may, in them SUVs they have more margin for error. Something goes wrong it's not quite as bad as in a sedan.. :D

Friend of mine back in high school was studying to take the exam back in Hungary (cause it was cheaper duh). They made him learn first aid as a compulsory part of the training. Figures that's the only part he failed, he could drive just fine. :D

I tend to celebrate mildly when I finally get it right.

Aye that's no good. I can't believe you people haven't revolted yet. No national health insurance, sucky public transport, immense gap between rich and poor... If it weren't for a truckload of positives to counter balance the US would be in the same pile of nations that includes Albania and Moldova

If you drove in Napoli, then argument over. You win. You can outdrive most Americans. Craziest shit I have ever been in (and I made my wife drive :p )

Oh, and, I don't know about scandinavian countries, but our parking spots are certainly three times as large as those in Italy/Germany/England :lol2:
